Hi everyone, still waiting to see the Dr. this Monday. I havent had anything to drink and have been in places where there was plenty of it. I am just drinking tonic water, if anything it's good for leg cramps (which I don't have). Anyway I'm looking forward to see what this Dr. has to say. So I'll be back on Monday afternoon to tell everyone what she says .... turn

And why have you been in places where plenty of booze is available? Are you testing yourself? I say, you're pushing your luck. Steer clear!

I do look forward to hearing what the doctor has to say on Mon.

Hi it was my boyfriends birthday and family members were taking us out for dinners and such. I'm sure they thought it was odd that I didn't have a drink. So far so good.

Linda, that is one of those situations (family b.d.), where you just have to resolve to get through it. Usually, it's best to not stay long, but you can't exactly rush it if dinner is involved.

Congrats on your continued sobriety! WTG!

Hi my night out went well. I have been drinking tonic or just water. I had yesterday off and went out tot lunch wi.th my guy and ..had water with my meal. So far so good

Hi well I went to the oncology Dr. She said my blood work looks better comparing it to my blood work that I had done before I went to her. My platelets were up as well. I have to make an appointment with a g I guy. He actullay works in a building a few blocks away. All is well with drinking. Bye for now.

Keep up the good work, you will not regret it. You must feel so good mentally as well as physically now that you are alcohol free! All the best to you :)

Hi, I really screwed up today...went to see a scoccer game today with my guy at a sports bar. I had 3 beers and some wine...i still havent called the liver dr.  I guess I'm not as strong as I thought I was. I feel as if I am in confession.  So sorry to disappoint.

Linda, you didn't take heed of the warning I gave you--stay out of places that serve alcohol or around people who are drinking. You haven't had enough sober time to take that chance. I think I was sober about 5 years before I would even go to a restaurant with a bar. Even with long-term sobriety, I usually go to family oriented restaurants that don't serve booze.

I had a lot of "slips" before I finally picked up my last white chip. You just start over again. That's why it's one day at a time. Just commit to staying sober each day. And I do think you would benefit from AA meetings, so you are not in this alone.

Hi Linda! I so agree with Connie - you really need to steer clear of ANY place that serves alcohol until you have a bit more sobriety under your belt. It's so easy to think to yourself, "I can go there and not drink!" - but as you have learned, in reality it's much tougher than it seems. That being said, don't beat yourself up too much over this slip-up - it will accomplish nothing and can put you in a bad state of mind. Some may not agree with me, but relapse is part of the recovery process. It's how you handle the relapse or slip-up that's important. Recognize it for what it is - and then move forward from it.

Please consider the suggestion from Connie - AA may not be for everyone, but you won't know if you don't try it out, and the proof that it can work is in its many success stories! If it's something you decide you want to check out, just go to aa.org and by going through various links, you will be able to find the AA meeting locations in your area. When searching for a local meeting you can choose the 'criteria' you are looking for in a meeting, i.e. location, day(s) of the week, smoking or non-smoking, open/closed meeting, male/female (if you prefer to just go to a meeting with other women), and it will list the meetings that fit.

 I agree with Splash , It's not so much you screwed up but the fact you recognize it and learn what to do to avoid it . Alcohol is poison to me , I don't believe for one second that I can afford a screw up . I suffered terribly and almost died because of my addiction , I'm not saying it's not possible for me to survive a screw up but it certainly isn't worth going through this mess again to find out . Fact is my liver is barely functioning by normal standards . If I end up in the hospital tomorrow and there is alcohol in my system it would be unlikely for me to go through another evaluation period before it kills me . Not something I personally can take lightly .

I corrected my other post. It was 5 YEARS, not days, that I stayed away from places that served alcohol. To this day, I zip by the wine and beer aisles in the store.

If you go to an AA meeting and you don't like it or the people, try a different one. Larger cities have many different AA locations.

Hang in there! You can do it. But go to a meeting and talk about your slip. Then pick up another white chip.

Hi, I have a question. Since I have hep c, I also have a enlarged spleen. At some point I will have to take meds for the hep, but will that help the spleen as well ?

That's a good question, Linda, to which I don't have an answer. But alcohol causes pancreatitis, so there's another reason to abstain. I would think that if your liver responds to treatment, then the pancreas would also benefit.
