Hi to everyone. I have not posted in a while been very busy. My husband had been doing very well. He finally takes All his Med's just like the doctors have told him to. He was feeling good last wednesday so he went out to our garage. He had a bad accident in the garage tripped and fell knocked a saw horse over that had a Engine Block on it for the last 3yrs and the engine block fell on his leg and broke his ankle in 3 places. He had surgery to put plates and screws to hold the ankle together again. Now we hope the pain Med's he is on is not hurting his already bad liver. He is scared to take the med's to much because of his liver but his blood pressure keeps staying high do to the pain. But this is what im worried about right now. The Hiccups He has had the hiccups for 4 days now. They wont go away. Has anyone ever had this happen to them or heard anything like this before. Thanks Dorothy

 Good to see he's doing better and following doctors orders . When I was suffering from extreme ascites ( Fluid in abdomen ) they prescribed Oxycodone as a pain medication , Pretty powerful stuff . My Hepatologist approved of it so my guess is that some pain medications given the circumstances is acceptable . Just make sure ALL his doctors are aware of what he's taking . Jeez , a engine block !!!! That is definitely a bone crusher .

 Don't recall hiccups being a problem but did have fits of sneezing that seemed to go on forever . I never asked if it was related so can't help you with that .

Have him take a teaspoon of sugar in his mouth and as it dissolves, swallow it. This works most of the time.

Another sure-fire hiccup cure is swallowing a tablespoon of vinegar. Wine vinegar tastes better than others. It only takes one Tbsp to do the trick.

As far as pain meds, as long as they don't have ibuprofen in them, they are okay. Hep docs would rather prescribe oxycontin, morphine, and other opiates, than OTC or prescription drugs that are bad for the liver.

Hi Dorothy,

The same thing happened to my husband with the hicups for days while he was in the hospital. He was put on a medication called Baclofen. I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling and I've thrown away all his meds, but I Googled hiccups and that's where i learned of this medication. Anyway it did help.

Hope he gets some relief, they are so frustrating

Thanks everyone he still has the Hiccups . He did get them to go away for a couple minutes yesterday, but they came right back. Barbara ,I'm going to ask about that medication on Monday when the Dr office opens thanks. I will be trying all other Ideas of how to get rid of them now. I feel so bad for him.

Barbara, I corrected your spelling. That drug is a central nervous system depressant, used for MS and spasticity. I guess hiccups are an off-brand use.

Dorothy, do try the vinegar.
