Update on Liver Biopsy

Got the results of the liver biopsy.  They ruled out AIH, Hep A,B,C and D.  No HCC.  No autoimmune diease

Findings are:

Fatty Metamorphosis predominately macrovesicular.  Chronic lymphocytic Inflammation/Chronic Hepatitis of Portal Tracts Grade 2.

Diffuse Portal and Periportal fibrosis with bridging fibrosis and nodular cirrhosis (non-alcoholic) early stage.  Liver is fully compensated.

Minimal stainable iron present due to ferrous sulfate to treat anemia.

NASH 

Hep Doc added vitamin e twice a day 400 IU to reduce inflammation and continue weight loss program.  Noted additional 10 pounds down from previous visit 4 weeks ago.  He said weight loss would slow or stop additional damage to the liver and reduce or eliminate fatty liver.   Reducing inflammation will help liver cells to regenerate. 

Cleared to take all meds including Acetaminophen, maximum strength Tylenol and Advil up to 4-6 tablets a day but not daily.  May take lower dose daily.

Findings were shared with a secondary hep doc who agreed.

Incidentally I noticed the Fatty Liver percentage of infiltration is down from 90 to 60.  Following low sodium, low fat diet.

Sounds like good news! It's great to have a diagnosis...too bad it's something but it's better to know.
I just wanted to clarify that acetaminophen is the drug name for Tylenol. So be sure you don't take more than 2000mg/day of acetaminophen whether you use a generic or the brand Tylenol. Some say you shouldn't use more than 1000mg/day to be on the safe side.

Thanks. I understood about the Tylenol/acetaminophen. I never take more than 1000 mg/day. I usually take 160mg-320mg and occasionally 640mg.

I only pointed it out because in your first message you said you were "Cleared to take all meds including Acetaminophen, maximum strength Tylenol and Advil up to 4-6 tablets a day but not daily."  I don't take very much when I do...usually only 250mg (I use Excedrin - it's a low dose of acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine).  I was initially told I could take Advil as I'd prefer that over Tylenol but I'm on a med for another issue that has a drug-drug interaction with ibuprofen so there goes my Advil.  The only pain I try to avoid is serious sinus pain as it triggers migraines for me...other than that, I just grin and bear.  I have been having knee pain and went in yesterday for an x-ray.  She recommended I try Solanpas or Icy/hot patches...The Solanpas is amazing!!

They have a patch, roll on, cream, spray...any way you want to get it on cool    I bought the patch though and it's great.  You keep it on for 8-12 hours.  So you can only use 2 per day.  They are a bit pricey (5 patches for ~$10).  CVS has a comparable (on sale 2 boxes of 5 for $11) but it isn't exactly the same ingredients.  So for my first time, I went with the name brand but I'll try the CVS one next time.  They are fragrant too...lots of menthol tongue

Thanks Dany.  In my first message I was just quoting what the doc said :).  I think he was just making sure I knew Acetaminophen is generic and that Tylenol and Advil were 2 brand names that could be used.

Solanpas has been around for a very long time.  If you have sensitive skin the patch might cause some burning (I have very sensitive skin and can only use it 2-4 hours or I get sunburn like symptoms).

PS you can get 120-140 patches through Amazon for 13-15 plus shipping.
