Last week I told brother to ask about
ERCP and then didn't hear anything. Just now I got the following text message from the caregiver brother down Mayo, in Jacksonville:
"They did an ERCP procedure there was a slight biliary anastonosis and they did a successful biliary sphincterotomy with balloon dialation and put a stent and they expect he can return to diet and meds and it will do another ERCP procedure in two months to replace the stent "
I'm sure he misspelled some of that. Jeez maybe now his bilirubin will drop down under 30!

My second hep who.is my main one told me only obstructions of some sort cause sudden onset of high bili levels.. my blockage was not confirmed until ERCP. Glad the corrected.
Awesome news. His bili was in 30s you said, expect a big drop then a few months before normal.

Thanks Syxx. So glad to hear that. I wish they had mentioned it to the doc 10 days ago when I told them (thanks to someone's suggestion from this forum).
Actually I guess you were one if them! He may have been able to avoid the pancreatitis attack last nite. Men! Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em!
Anyway, glad the docs finally "got" what you folks knew more than a week ago.
That's why I live this forum :)
Thanks all

Some things seem rare, so when ppl live it they remember.
Pancreatitis will suck but in a few days he will not be yellow.

Amen!
Rest of story.
Mike had ERCP out PT before transplant as part of prep
We stayed over several days and had multiple appts scheduled. Got back to hotel and he took a nap. Woke up from nap in pain. Waited a while. Finally the hotel took us to ER at 6:00 PM in their van
Mike sat in triage until 5 AM in agony before he got any morphine
This was early before I had phone numbers and my bitc* act perfected
I learned a lot. But poor Mike. He was out of his mind.

Omg. I can't imagine having pancreatitis that long without relief. That poor guy!
Wonder was that standard prior to TP?
Carol I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has honed her bitc* skills :). Hey, someone has to do it, the patients are usually too complacent when it comes to self-advocation so as not to rock the boat.
Myself, I'm of the "squeaky wheel" persuasion.

Great news, Mae. And the only spelling error I see is perhaps dilatation (which is the same as dilation.)

Any new blood work? Usually 4 to 5 days later they do a followup. He will hopefully see a big drop. I went from mid 30s to 15 in first 4 days. After that it took like 3.5 months to get to normal levels.

Bili 27.3
Albumin serum 3.0
TP. 4.1
Creatinine 1.2
Lipase 682
INR 1.6
Hgb. 9.2
Hematocrit 26
Platelets 173
That bili just won't budge.

Thats a 6 point drop from thr last lab you showed. I found a study on NIH and it said once your above 15 for total bili the time to drop increases by bigger chunks. An obstruction with lower than 10 can clear in a week, 10 to 15 6. weeks anything higher up to 6 months.
At least it dropped.

Mae,
Pancreatitis is a tough, painful thing, even if your brother didn't recently have a transplant. A friend of mine was hospitalized several years back with it. He said the pain was worse than kidney stones. I know what that's like, so I can sympathize.

Yes David, thanks. He has a high tolerance for pain, thank goodness.
Cousin said it was worse than labor for her and much more protracted.
Waiting to see if I need to fly back down to Mayo bc my other brother needs to go back to work Monday leaving Richard alone and you are required to have a caregiver whilst staying at Gabriel House.
