Graduation Day Today Addiction Counseling

Well, it's been three years since Mike passed away.. and today... I'm sure he is with me... for today.. I am graduating with my Addiction Counseling Certificate. I was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA. I am thankful for the ability. I just wanted to keep you in the loop. I am going on for my Phd.. it's possible that I will do it in Marriage and Family therapy. I'm not sure. I have been accepted to a program. Just a quick update. Today is Graduation Day!!!

Congratulations, Sandia! I'm sure it wasn't easy - but you stuck with it and saw it through! Great job and good luck on your Phd journey!

Congrats on the Graduation.

Many substance abusers will benefit from your wisdom and life experiences.

I encourage you to go for the PhD.  I have my 6th Year Certificate in Education...30 credits more than a Master's Degree, but no dissertation. Some colleges call it ABD, all but dissertation.

I never wrote the paper, had a bunch of kids, got divorced, met Mike, had a career, and all those years whizzed by.

Not finishing is one of my biggest regrets.

Don't wait...DO IT GIRL!

I am impressed. What an accomplishment followed such a difficult loss of Mike. You are pretty special. A big congrats! Just, Wow!!

I have no clue which way the Lord is going to lead me.. I've actually been interviewing for Voc Rehab Counselor positions. I found out too late that when I crossed the Wisconsin border that I would have trouble bringing my Master's Degree in Counseling with. I can take the Voc Rehab Master's. I finished two Master's in a year and a half. Don't ask me how and I was pregnant.

I am talking with a group that looks very promising. I would be working with troubled teens in a day activity center. I would be the Educational Coodinator and run small groups. This organization would also provide an opportunity for me to complete Addiction Counselor hours that I need for licensure I would be able to use my teaching degree, counseling degree, and addiction counseling certificate all in one place. Any place I go I will look to run groups.
I have no choice but to work and go to school This position would be part time. I like that idea. I will take one class at a time. Mama now they have a special degree for a person ABD. They call them Specialist and some people actually hire for that degree.

I am experiencing age discrimination factors in the state hiring process. I am scoring highly on all state exams. I always do well in a business that needs a person to perform and not just push paper around. This job I was speaking about is one like that. I'm praying to work there. It's in Northern rural Wisconsin. I have traveled this state from top to bottom and I like the top better than the bottom.

Thank you for all your kind words. I will continue to be here. This is my family. I felt that I was given a gift during my journey with Mike and it is my responsibility to help if I can. So sometimes all I can do is be the "cheerleader" for this forum. I am blessed by all of you and you build my spirits up daily. Thank you for participating in my life. Yes, Mike is always looking down.

Congratulations Sandia,,,,wow, that is wonderful.  It helps to read about someone who was able to move on after losing their spouse.  It has only been 4 months since my hubby died, and I still feel like I am moving through thick mud.  What a great accomplishment for you!!  Keep it up.  Let's those of us traveling the same road a couple of years behind you see a brighter future.  Thanks for that also.

I issue credentials to drug counselors for Louisiana, what state are you in...?

Butterfly, she was speaking of Wisconsin. I imagine that you only issue credentials for LA.

I was thinking that Sandia should be able to take a course and/or tests to gain licensure in WI, and apparently she can. I know that nurses have to gain licensure in a state that is different from the one where they hold licensure. I am sure this is true of every state that requires licensure in certain fields.

My course work is done... it's about finding a place to do the 3000 additional hours that are required.. in Minnesota I would have already had my license.. I have completed an internship.. Wisconsin is tacking on another 3000 hour requirement.. long story.. anyways.. it'll work out..
