the fight is over

          goodmorning everyone,,    I have been waiting and waging war against the demon virus for decades.  how can i go on with out this encroaching shadow following me around relentlesly.  It seems to be that the super hero;  INCIVEK  has come to my rescue, and his cronies interferon and ribaviron are propping me up at the finish line.

It cannot 'reactivate' after SVR. You are not in remission you have a sustained viral response. Congratulations!!!!!!!

Then the terminology must have changed in recent years. David, hadn't you undergone treatment and then had to do it again after transplant? Correct me if I'm wrong.

At any rate--eradicated is a great word! Congrats!!

I have been undetectable for 18 months. My docs do not use the word cured. That's why I asked how long Barry has been undetectable.

I was undetectable for a year in 2005-6 after doing the 2 part cocktail, had a cerebral hemorrhage, then the Hep C returned. Had a transplant 4 years later. Did the 2 part therapy a year after transplant and as noted it's been 18 months since the virus has been detected.

Pretty much the same as your situation. The difference is that you did the 3 part therapy, which may explain why your docs feel more certain that it's a cure. As long as there's no viral load when my labs come back, I'm happy. Great for you!

So, had you been clear of the virus for six months after treatment ended in 05/06 and been told you had achieved SVR before your cerebral hemorrhage?

@David...thanks for your dates. This means you did not achieve sustained viral response ( SVR) the first treatment. You must be undetected 24 weeks past end of treatment (EOT). Per your dates, you were about 12-16 weeks past EOT when you had the hemorrhage and detected with Hep C. That is relapse.

All tests are either "undetected" or "detected". That is like negative or positive on labs/bloods.

When did you have EOT on your 2nd treatment? Calculate 24 weeks (or 6 months) past EOT and a viral load test at that time. If you have achieved SVR, that is the test that verifies it .

My husband also relapsed 8 weeks post EOT on his first treatment. Stinks! He did achieve SVR (24 weeks post EOT, on his 2nd treatment. He now is 23 months undetectable but only 12 months SVR. Hope this info helps.

Please tell me you are 6 months undetectable since EOT. You are such a hero to us for all you have been through ....Hugs, themiz

Doctors won't say cured because they use the term sustained viral response. If you have SVR the only way for the virus to come back is if you have a new infection....
