Our brother Chris lost his battle with end stage cirrhosis on Monday August 12 at home. I was able to be with him at his home because I moved closer to him three weeks ago. My sadness is overwhelming and I still have to get through the viewing tomorrow and memorial Saturday. How does one do that?

I'm so sorry for all you and your family have gone through. It's never easy when losing a sibling so young and so senselessly. I speak from experience but I can tell you, though it seems trite, time will heal. You have a close family that will help you along the way.

You should take comfort in knowing that you did all you could for Chris, and know that he is at peace now. I'm so sorry it had to come this.

We have a support thread for family titled "surviving the losses, one day at a time". There are so many folks in your shoes and you will find amazing support from kindred spirits there.

You will find strength at the viewing and the services from all those who knew and loved Chris. You can do this but always remember that we are here for you too.

I am so sorry for your loss. My Prayers to you and your Family.

I know the pain you feel. I lost My Best Friend, My Brother as you know. The days are long and I will not live as long as it would take for the heartache to subside.

The only peace I found was knowing he was not suffering any more. He died at my home and I had to help. This I will never get over. I wear a heart cremation charm daily and Proudly with his ashes that I hold frequently in my hand.

I have been Blessed with the gift of his son. My little brother made over. I will continue to keep you each in my Prayers. My email is listed in my profile if ever I can help any of you.

Thank you all very much. It's been a very trying couple of weeks. I miss him so much. I do take solace in the fact that he's not hurting anymore, but I cry every day. He was so young to die of this disease.

Alisa, I plan on wearing a cremation charm too for him.

Oh, also, an update on my mom. The day after Chris died, we had to take her to the hospital. She was starving herself. It was confirmed that she has cirrhosis. So ultimately, I get to go through this horrible roller coaster again :( Luckily, she is eating again and seems to be herself. I just dread this horrible ride again.

Is mom still off the booze since January? I went back on your posts but not much about mom, can you fill us in?

Is the cirrhosis from alcohol alone, no Hep? Has she seen a hepatologist? If so does she say what stage the cirrhosis is? Does she live alone and do you know what meds she is taking? Any other symptoms besides loss of appetite?

The more info you can give us, the better we can help.
One of the moderators may suggest you start a new thread dedicated to your mom's issues.

No, she hasn't been off the booze. In fact, I think she's been drinking again since he passed. No hep that I know of. Not sure what stage it is. she lives with our other brother. Nosebleeds are the only other symptom. I was just putting an update because I had mentioned her in another post. After Chris, I guess I know what to look for now. Turns out most of the weight loss and lack of appetite was due to overdoing Hydrocodone, Prozac, Xanax, etc.

Yes, the meds would do it, along with the drinking. Dangerous combination, too.

I don't see the need for you to start another thread right now.
