Thanks, Barry. I just found out that I didn't make the sofo/ledipas trial. Too many people applying, and not nearly enough slots given to Mayo. He mentioned that there are new things coming to market, but the problem will be having it paid for by insurance.

Yup, insurance is going to be a problem.
Which goes back to Big Pharma...they want quick return on their long long long research programs. So if they charge a lot in the US and insurance doesn't reimburse...the six people who can fork over a jillion thousand dollars won't give them much of a return on investment also.
AND, when they don't fund the new drugs, they wind up with you and others (Mike and you and and and) back in hospital for continuing care, and looking for second transplants. Why make this population sicker? And more in need of care.
Shall they just put the patients to the curb and let them die?
Seems crazy to me. We'll have to see how it works out.
I am hoping that the same program that helped you out with the meds this week will help with the treatment programs.

Carol, as you can imagine, that wsa a real disappointment to me, as I feel that may have been my only chance to beat the HCV and to survive much longer. Everything I have going on now is somehow related to the virus.
I would probably be devastated if my attention wasn't so focused on my medical situation now and trying to stay clear of the hospital. Hospitalizations never do me much good and usually are harmful.
Of course, those companies want to recoup their money, even at the expense of the patients they are purportedly trying to help. Greedy. Heartless.
Hugs,
Connie

My hep told BC/BS it would be cheaper to treat me, rather than pay for me to stay in the hospital until I died. They approved xifaxin and a second round of interferon/ribavirin. You have to have a tough doc or TC to stand up for you.

I checked the Medicaid FL Formulary today.
For Hep C treatment there is the various forms of Interferon and Ribavirin on the list.
I will keep an eye on this.
And yes, it will be cheaper in the long run to treat than to have these long protracted ESLD episodes! Multiple times for TP survivors.
Best to all,

Mine would have to be paid for by Medicare or my Part D (not likely.) I don't have regular Medicaid, so if Medicare won't pay, or something can't be worked out with the manufacturer or otherwise, I don't get it.

Connie, i am so so sorry for this set back. At this point, i agree with David. Does Mayo have patient advocates, that assist the drs in finding tx, and assisting patients with the approval process.
i dont forsee any problems getting insurance to cover. All drugs coming out are super expensive. Incivek was not a problem, and the price was 10 fold over the 2 drug combo.
anything i can help with? best always, barry
