Could you tell us what drug you were given that cured your Hep C.

hi again clb08, david is correct. only an RNA(ribo nucleic acid) test done by pcr can detect and quantify an active hep c infection. the test has been aruond since 1992, but newer technology as david said can detect the virus down to 2 copies per ml. your ob has confirmed this for you, as you said. your liver function tests are normal, so your enzymes and billirubin are fine, your liver is doing the job.

listen only to your OB and new liver doc. They will keep you in the best possible condition for your baby. congrats and best to you. and please keep us up to date on eveything

Finally seen the G.I. Dr today. She told me that it's very unlikely that I have hep c since my liver functioning test came back completely normal. She seemed pretty confident but I don't want to get my hopes up just in case. She said with a completely normal LFT that it's either a false positive or I had once had the virus and my body it off and now just have the antibody. So I blood work done today to find out more. Too see if it's just the antibody, active or a false positive. But now that I've been thinking when my OB told me my hep c came back positive she said something about they had blood tested for the antibody. But my G.I. Dr never mentioned that. She just said you were tested for hep c and it came back positive but we don't know what genotype or anything and with your LFT being normal it's unlikely you have hep c. So how would my OB know that? I hope I'm making sense for someone to shed some light on this for me. Thank you

wait till next week and your gi will have a new HCV RNA test result. we cant help without your full lab report, and the wording of the test.

the anti body test will be measured by signal to cut off ratio. anything above a .9 is considered positive. .9 to 3.8 is can be a false positive. above 3.8 is usually a firm positive.

pcr rna is measured by viral load. anything below the level of quantification, but still detected can be a false positive. your next pcr rna will show a trend line and be more predictive.

So there's no way when I had my initial test for HCV that a PCR RNA was done as well right? Because I was never given any information of a viral load when my OB gave me my results.

My docs have always given me my test results, but not everyone does. Ask them.

Yes, and you should keep copies of EVERYTHING...you will be glad down the road, either way.

All of my records, going back 4 years (post transplant) are now online. I realize that may be taking a chance, but I've become lazy after dealing with this for over 10 years.
