Hi P&C I am from Canada in the province next door, welcome to the forum!
First off I can imagine how hard this has been and reading your story I can imagine sometimes you just want to give up but you can't and now you have us to help with your support! You can come here anytime and you have friends and support who can hopefully provide some sort or answers to your questions, we are all in the same situation and want nothing more than to see you cured.
I am covered by Sunlife insurance which is through my wife who is a public service worker so I get 80% coverage and had to pay $3000 more to get 100% coverage for my Sovaldi+Ribavirin treatment.
I know we have a couple of others on the forum from Canada named "Doug" and "MikeinTO" or something similar and perhaps they will chime in soon but I believe one of them is with Manulife insurance.
Has the Gilead Momentum program contacted Chambers Insurance instead of you? Please trust me when you call Gilead and they ask for your details and ask if you have spoken to them previously and they say something like "Can I get your name and number and one of our caseworkers will get back to you"
Be adamant and tell them "NO" you are very sick and need help and you will WAIT ON HOLD to speak with a caseworker and I bet within minutes they will have you speaking with your caseworker. Tell them you cannot have them calling you back at anytime for privacy reasons and you only have today to speak in private with them and will wait on hold.
Once you have Gilead caseworker on the phone ask them if they have spoken with your insurance company and sent them info packages, if not ask them if they can call them and do a conference call with you to see how much they will cover you for and ask WHY they are only covering you for 50% when other Canadian insurance companies such as Sunlife and Manulife are providing 100%. It's unfair to say the least and it makes my fricken blood boil to hear this!
Personally I think these insurance companies need to be shamed into paying for this treatment with all the insurance premiums we usually pay and never use! How would your insurance company like to be on the news and known as the one who only provides 50% coverage while others provide 100% is what I would ask because I am sure you will not be the only one to complain about
them.
Your insurance company has to realize its gonna cost a hell of a lot more to replace your liver and all the medical care up to that point vs getting you on some of the new medications so its their call, they can pay now and get a discount or have you burning up money for years to come or at least until the B.C government will cover the costs.
Be strong P&C and remember you have all of us here to cheer you up and answer questions.
Allen
