Hi everyone, just posted once before test came back, doctor said Hep B, but I would like to ask a question what is going to happen to me, will I get sick? (just tired now) Doctor said 4 to 7 weeks in, I really don't know what that means, and I know no one believe me, but when did I get this? My husband has prostate cancer and He just got tested so waiting to find out about this. So I haven't had sex for since august or sept. of 2013, no kissing like French kissing I do not do drugs and I do drink 1 or 2 beers a month not every month and I smoke and I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis, 7 years. I have been on Humria and loritabs and mortrin for a long time. So what do I do? How am I going to feel? thanks Vickie let me know if you need anything else

hi vickiek, " 4 to 7 weeks in". that is how long your dr. believes you have had this. your dr will repeat all the bloodtests again after 6 months have elapsed. most all adult onset hep b infections, resolve on their own. your immune system will kill off the virus.

i had hep b as a teenager and never knew it, until i had a blood test years later. i never felt sick.

Hi ppm guy, yes doc said that, I'm doing labs again May 26 2014, I also have rheumatoid Arthritis and have a lower immune system now so hope it can get it, I have been taking Humirau for about 6-7 years and lots of lortabs, Morton etc. My alt and ast was slowly going up like 65 and 43 then 107, 143 these are for Jan Feb and March of this year and did one more 2 weeks ago and was alt 179 ast 127 alk phos 150 my albumin 3.5 globulin 3.1 a/g ratio 1.1 not up at all. I am not a drinker or drugs no sex but I do smoke (is this bad on liver?) thanks again Vickie

Smoking is bad on the liver, yes. Try to quit if you can. You did not get Hep B from the drugs you are on. The main ways you can get it is sexually, intravenous drug use or blood transfusions.

There are other ways you could get it. Example is such as mine, where I believe I was stuck with a dentist needle that was used on a Hep B patient and never cleaned. I've heard other cases as well, such us people getting them from unclean barbers after getting cut by a razor, etc.

Don't worry about how you got it. Worry about clearing it and, if needed, go on meds if it goes beyond 6 months.

Hi all again, it's been a little bit since I have been on so now I found out that I do have chonic Hep B so now my doctor put me on Lamivudine 100mg daily, I hope this is the right drug for me, I retake my blood work in the middle of March 2015. here are my results from Nov. 2014. Any advise from anyone?

Hi Vicki,

 Are you going to a Hepatologist or Liver Specialist? Lamivudine is the worst thing you can take for Hep B and your liver. This is used mainly for HIV Patients. It's had some very bad side effects on Hep B patients, even causing HCC and in some case, DEATH. I am glad I came here when I did before it's too late. Here is an article:

Your only two choices should be Tenofovir (Viread) or Entecavir (Barraclude). Nothing else should even be an option for Chronic Hep B patients.

Please either have a talk with your doctor, switch doctors or see a Hepatologist or liver specialist (try one at hepb.org). This is not safe for you! God Bless

hi vickiek, sorry about your chronic dx. has your dr said anything about your RA drugs. this class of drugs, weakens the immune system. my transplant surgeon, who monitors my cirrhosis, will not let me use auto immune, or immuno suppressing drugs as they can reactivate hep b.(prednisone is ok).

my question to your dr is, if monoclonal antibodies can restsart hep b, can they block you from clearing the infection.

Hi all, thanks for the post, yes I am going to Vanderbilt University as soon as I can get in, should I quit taking the med's? I have been off of all my RA drugs for about 8 to 9 months now and boy can I tell it I have had at least 4 flare ups, one time I couldn't use my hands, the just about 2 weeks ago I couldn't walk because of a flare up in my left foot, don't really know which one is worse. I have no Hep B problems except for ringing in ears, very tired and some itching. Thanks all and hope everyone is doing better Vickie

Vickie, I am not sure what kin of "flare ups" you're having but no use of hands or feet does not sound like a Hep B flare up. Ask your doctor to put you on Tenofovir at this point, before you stop taking any meds. It's the most potent and any other med you take, may not work because you're already on something. Tenofovir has been proven to work when switching meds.

Interesting you have ringing in ears. I have it too. I never had it pre-hep b. I asked my doctor and he said there was no relation but I find it hard to believe! As I took meds, the ringing in my ears drastically reducded! I'm almost undetectable and I barely notice the ringing. Only in queit rooms will I notice it. Before, I noticed it a lot no matter where I was, and at some point my ears would "THUMP". My theory was that I had a virus in my blood and my bad blood was getting to my heart, affecting my ears. I too, had a lot of itching and was very tired. I still get tired from time to time but nowhere near as much as I did. And my itching is pratically gone.

Please discuss Tenofovir as an option with your doctor. Also, please speak about any potential sides with this drug with your doctor. It's been known to cause bone less and kidney issues. These can be avoided with the right diet and vitamin regiment (Vitamin D3 @ 10,000 iu Daily along with Vitamin K2 -- 1,000 mcg for every 5,000 iu of Vitamin D)

Have you have you Vitamin D levels checked? Guaranteed they are too low.

Hi Luckyman, the flare ups are from my RA, not my Hep B. it has got bad since I have been off all meds for the RA. No the Doctor has not check for Vitamin D level. Did you take Lamivudine before? I hope I can get to another doctor before it's to late, I don't want to be sick I do feel fine most of the time. How is the trial clinical going?


Hi Barry, and thanks for writing, yes I have been off of all RA meds for about 7 or 8 months now I think that is why I'm getting my flare ups. Don't know what is worst

Hi Vickie, now that explains it. Also, you probably have RA due to the Hepatitis. It actually causes joint pain in some cases, even chronic. I'm not saying that once you go undetectable or even clear it, that it will go away. But it's probably the root cause of your RA. Lovely, right?

Knowing that you have been on drugs for RA and were diagnosed with RA, more than likely means a good Hepatologist will probably point you towards Barraclude (Entecavir) first since Tenofovir could have a large effect on your bones, like it is starting to do with me.

I'm not sure where in the world you are, but if you can find a doctor at hepb.org near you, go to them. It will help, and discuss all options. A good Hepatologist from there will also check your Vitamin D, which I suspect is probably very low like all of us with Hep B get. Mine was as low as 14, and I had to ASK to get it checked by a GI doctor. Switched doctors to a Hepatologist who I see for the clinical trial, and he took it without any questions asked. Of course, it was 4-5 months later and I was on 10,000iu daily but my levels shot up to 76 at that point. You want it to be at 100 if you can.

Again, switch doctors, especially one that specializes in Hep B. You'll thank us all and yourself later.
