Thanks ziff for your story it is quite amazing! I just got back from the hospital I was there for a few hours, I had to come back home, as I have my son this week and he is too young to be at the hospital, he seen grandpa a month ago or so when we were all working out in the yard.
The past 2 days my father has been declining as the doctor told us, but we knew that before he even said anything. I spoke with his nurse first and then the doctor.
My dad was sleeping when I got there and I put the picture I made for him at his bedside, when he awoke, he loved it, but I am not too sure if he could totally focus on it. While I was there he had a choking spell, which scares us all the nurse came in and took his oxygen level and helped him through the coughing spell, it's so hard to watch this, he said jodi should leave after he came out of the coughing spell because he knows me so well. I just took a walk down the hall.
My mom and I spoke with the doctor and he stated dad is declining, but we did try to stabilize him to atleast give him that chance. We agreed with him.
We are on the palliative care program, it's like hospice but in the hospital, we have asked not to move dad as they wanted to see how he would do out of bed, before I got there they did this, my mom didn't like it, she had to hold his head up and he was dizzy, we said NO MORE OF THIS! His blood pressure has stayed about 80 / 60 I think that is what the nurse said, she gave me so much information. We have dad on small amounts of morphine for any pain. I asked the doctor of any side affects of morphine and he said constipation, and having a harder time breathing, but he said at this point we want him to be comfortable. We are all in agreement with this. Dad can hardly talk, he winked at me about half way through our visit , I gave him a wink back and a smile and kissed his forehead.
He was sleeping when I left, he does look comfortable except for the coughing spells from time to time and saying he can't breathe, it breaks my heart. the doctor said this is due to him getting weaker each day. My mom and sister are with him now and if there is a change they are going to call me.
