Hi, I am themiz, and my husband is themister. He is the one with liver disease, and I am the one that loves him. Themister is also a geno 3, did interferon/riba twice in the last 9 years. He did clear and obtain SVR (cure), the 2nd time.
From everyone treating, without interferon, and the addition of Solvaldi, this treatment does have sides, but sure not anything that seem severe enough you could not care for your child. And this isn't like chemo, if that is what you are concerned with. You may have some changes, but I doubt it will be much more than minor stuff you can deal with. And this protocol is a good one for geno 3. With interferon/solvaldi /riba....it is 12 weeks. But interferon free, 24.
You want to make certain to drink a lot of water. Take your body weight, divide weight in half. Drink that many oz. water per day. It really helps the side fx.
Eat something rather fatty when you take riba. A nut butter on a few crackers worked fine for themister. And if you are not taking something like Nexium or Prilosec, it does help. The generic type med is in your local drugstore and known as Omeprazole.
If you have some nausea, try Ginger Ale, soda crackers, and (using my best Mom voice) chicken soup.
There is often (not always) some rash. If you have that problem, get your doctor to RX you Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream 0.025%, and use sparingly. It helps. Take cool showers with rash.
A sadly, kind of common with the longer riba treatment....some very snappy, out of the norm anger. With 24 weeks you may have more problem with that "riba rage" than those treating just 12 weeks. Themister was a bear, and it is absolutely, not like him to have that "snarky, mean attitude". And he knew it, but could not help himself and the raging thing. The doctor did put him on an anti-depressant, which took care of that problem, post haste.
Seriously, you should be fine. You may not have any of the above, of maybe a few as the weeks go on...but it is so very worth it to get rid of Hep C. Post if you have any issues that trouble you. Someone here had been there and will jump in.
Big Hugs, and Welcome to the Hep part of Healing Well, as well as the dragon slaying crowd!
