Gosh a supportive belt sure wouldn't HURT- especially when he's golfing. But ultimately you want to have your abdominal muscles doing the work and NOT getting weaker because they're relying on a support belt. There's a muscle that can be developed ( the transverse abdominus) that wraps around you like a big support belt or girdle. Some gentle strengthening of this would be a good idea that couldn't hurt. Gentle though. You can google " pelvic tilts" for a very gentle but great starting exercise. He should start very slowly and with attention to form. If it hurts or seems like it's making the hernia worse, of course stop. I think it's great that he's able to start doing things he loves. I'm hoping at some point to be able to cycle and run again maybe.

Mike has worn a belly band with both hernias and after the hernia surgery. It is like 95 degrees here every day so this is not that much fun!
He has Post TP clinic on the 28th, so we will discuss with the docs at that time. ASk them if there are any restrictions for him golf wise, etc. I know lifting can be an issue.
Our crisis today was his changed insurance plan. FL has required all Medicaid patients to join one of the approved HMO plans. We live in one county and TP center is in another county....so we had to choose plan active in both counties that included our TP center on the approved list. But, that group is new in our home county so the PCP and a bunch of other specialists either are not going to be on the list or are not on their list YET. Lots of changes.
He went to 4 labs today trying to get his post Hep C treatment labs drawn. Three would not take the new insurance and the fourth did the draw, but could not do all the tests the doc wants...specifically, Mike is on Zortress because he cant take Cellcept and they don't run the Zortress level test at the lab that would let him in the door! One of the labs DOES the test so he will go to the the PCP tomorrow and hopefully get a special authorization to have the Zortress level test done.. One of the labs he went to was the U Miami lab in Pompano, which is 85 miles away...so Mikey had a busy day....busy and frustrating. I guess this is how things are working out the kinks in the governor's new program.
He stayed in a good mood even though this was very frustrating, which is truly the new MIKE. Any time in recent years we might have had a very bad day. He even made the calls to the HMO himself. Woo Hoo....
So labs taken, it is time to cross fingers and toes and wait out the lab results...will the viral load have remained undetected?????
Hope all are doing okay tonight.
Hugs,
Mama Lama

He did it !! Wow.
When themister got his SVR , we could not believe it. Afraid it would not last. Until a two VL's later (24 weeks, then one year) we did not feel it was positively true. Exciting day for you both. Big Hugs

Thanks everyone. All is not perfect, dont' get the wrong idea...some of his numbers are not in normal ranges...though his AST/ALT is 15/17....gosh, I didn't know they came that low.
But now we are looking for a new "normal" for Mike...Mike without Hep C, just a normal 3+ years post TP guy. His blood pressure is uncontrolled, the creatinine high, his cholesterol has doubled in 3 months, and his blood sugar is up again. We think maybe the new antirejection med, Zortress is the culprit. Or his body misses that dragon???
TP clinic Thursday, more then.
At least he feels well...so one day at a time...
Hugs,
Mama La

Good Luck at the transplant clinic tomorrow. Zortress did not give Mike the bad reactions you so feared, so I do hope there is something they can adjust to get his funky numbers back in line. ALT/AST look splendid, though. Big Hugs,
