Happy New Years to all my HW friends...patients and loved ones....especially those having a rough patch at the moment.
Last night, about 11:45 EST, I wrote a lovely sappy new years post...and as luck would have it, my tablet ran out of power before I sent it, so zip zap...gone.
This morning, I got out my laptop...which has been, for the most part, packed in a carry case for trips back and forth to Miami...where I cleverly leave it in the bag while fretting for hours over this and that! Vintage Carol....the perpetual "fretter," even when there isn't a darn thing I can do to fix whatever it is I'm fretting about!
Yesterday was Mike's post op appointment with Cardiac Surgeon....he was deemed doing as well as can be expected, and the stitches from the HUGE drain holes were removed. He was told the bone in the chest would heal in 4-6 weeks baring injury and he would be recovered enough at 6 weeks to face the hernia surgery. They expect him to be good as new in 8 - 12 weeks, but he is going to have the second surgery before he is fully recovered.....do the final recoveries at the same time.
He returns to his regular cardiologist for follow up care in 2 weeks, and to TP the following week for pre-op for the hernia procedure tentatively scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd Friday in February. Generally that is a one day surgery, but Mike has never gotten out of there in less than 2 days...so, I'll pack some clothes and play it by ear. He has had 3 day and 5 day colonoscopies! So...
The very nice New Years post was mushy...about how much we have to be thankful for, about my appreciation for the support we receive here on Healing Well, about how much Jackson/UMiami has done for Mike, and that the move to Florida was a life saver for him...he was a patient at Mt Sinai and though we loved his doctor in NY, he would be long gone at this point I fear. And about how much I have complained about our medical system, and Florida's stand on Medicaid...they have come through time after time for his transplant, his Hep C treatment drugs, and the surgical care he has needed along the way. Mike is on Medicare now...so we will see how that goes...federal instead of state...hmmm..
I still feel all those things, but with the light of day am not posting all weepy.
Best to you and yours for as good a 2015 as possible, under the circumstances.
Hugs, Mama Lama
