No ongoing antibiotic, but they "covered" him with antibiotic at time of surgery like when tp folks go to the dentist.
I didn't know that could mess with your lfts.
Thx

Yesterday, the 30th, we spent the afternoon and evening at the local ER at the recommendation of our TP Coordinator. Mike was experiencing intolerable pain following his Incisional Hernia Repair on the 27th.
They did blood and a CT scan with contrast....which took from 2:30 until 10:00 PM, of course.
They did not admit him, nor transfer him to Jackson, which would have been the plan if he needed a surgical intervention.
Rather they gave him IV pain meds, got on top of his pain, and sent him home with flagyl antibiotic and pain meds (he had refused to take any...said he didn't need them, it was not a big surgery, etc.)
He has an emerging infection in section of his bowel they could see on the CT, but no bleeding. Good he went in before it got bad.
Post op appointment in Miami on Thursday...Tuesday and Wednesday are for resting up. He is sleeping all morning after he got up to take his pills and drink some water.
Thanks for all your support.

ML I am glad to hear Mike is taking the pain meds and is doing relatively good. I know that it is tough to not want to take the pain meds, but it is important to stay ahead of it and not let it get to the point where it is uncontrolled. I had back surgery a year ago and I am still having issues. I just switched pain clinics because they were wanting me to do another surgery. My PCP and Liver Doc do not agree and think I should be managed with orals for the time being.
Tell him to rest up and feel better. In a few days he will be doing good I am sure.

Hope you get that much needed break. As much as we know caregivers need a break, need to take breaks, it IS impossible to take care of YOU when you are constantly in hospital, labs and ER with loved one. Rest. Sleep when you can. Sending you both, Big Hugs.

My girl is still trucking on her education. She finished her EMT Basic. She has now switched to Medical Office Specialist.
I'm still trucking along on my Phd. I should be taking my Comprehensive Exam in November and then writing my dissertation starting January 2016. I have no clue at that point how long it will take. Next spring I take my national counselor exam.
My work is tough. I work 50- 80 hours a week and some how God still gives me the grace to keep going. I don't know how.
Praying for you and Mike!!

Sandia, Education...that is the best thing you all can do for yourselves...positive encouragement sent your way. 80 hour weeks are rough with a household to manage and school. But if anyone can do it, you can.

ML, I have been radio silent for a bit, but wanted to check in. I was happy to read your recent posts about
Mike's operation. That darn infection will be moved out soon, I'm hoping. Glad to hear he finally got to have the operation and things are progressing in the right direction. Mike will feel, maybe already does, so much better. I will be posting a new thread about
my mom and dad. I hope your sister is doing as well as possible.
Hugs,

Hi all,
Mike has his post hernia operation follow up today.
The surgeon says he looks fine, did not think he HAD an infection.
But with an abundance of caution, suggested he follow up with a GI doc locally...that the problem was NOT with the hernia or liver or pancreas.
Not sure what he is going to do...after 5 hours in the car plus the waiting at the TP clinic, he is sound asleep for the rest of the day!
Best to all,
ML

I bet you are both happy to have this chapter behind you. I would be relieved to know his liver, pancreas, and hernia are not a problem. You should be able to take a needed break, prehaps? Big Hugs

OK, so Mike is getting better, slowly but surely. When will you see the gastro? What are his symptoms now, other than somnolence? : )
I think you two are doing great with this horrid l o n g process. Hugs to both of you.

Oh, and I forgot...the liver function tests were half way from last week to normal...so low 100s last week and 50s this week...maybe normal range next time. Whew...one worries about
a new liver.
We see the gastro next month.

Hi folks, not much to report...other than that my guy was feeling so good that I took some Grandma time and headed north. I heard the snow had retreated, packed my jeans and flew to Albany to see the grandkids. What a great time we have had...museums, movies and relatives galore. I have done more puzzles, played more board games, and done more crafts than the normal G'ma. This is the daughter who started the Mama Lama name! She is 40 and the kids are sweet. BAck to Florida for me tomorrow.
Mike good, Sister good. Mike has cardio, hepatology, oncology, nephrology, and gastroenterology in the next 4 weeks. This guy gets checked so much he must glow in the dark. Some of his labs are off, so I told him to relax, we have experts who will let us know if there is anything MORE to worry about
.
Hope all are well...I've been checking in, but not like I usually do. It was 60 here today...lovely.
Hugs,

Mike is lucky to have you MamaLama. Unfortunately, I don't have any better knowledge to offer any suggestions, I'm sorry. You were and are in my prayers.

Three weeks post hernia surgery. Mike is doing well again. He still rests when he needs to, but is up, going on his walks, shopping, enjoying his life as he can. No lifting yet, no golf yet, but those are on the horizon.. Now that the temperatures are in the 80s again and the GOOD golf season is behind him, he hopes to return to uncrowded fairways with his year rounders (though who don't flee north with the birds once May 1st arrives..)
He has a big anniversary coming then....May 1 he will be 4 years post TP. It has been a ride...but so far he is here with us. So #1 and #2 goals met: Here and Hep C FREE. He is blessed.
Hugs,
Mama Lama
