Hep B... Question.

My husband had Hep C and now is on a transplant list. I have no experience with Hep B, but did want to welcome you. We do have some members here with Hep B and I will give your post a title so they can find you more easily.

David, I haven't seen a hepatologist or a GI. I had the infection when I was 20 years old and really don't have knowledge about the future after having Hep B.

My plan is to discuss it with my primary care doctor.

I guess I can be considered the local Hep B expert at this point since I'm on the treatment.

David is right, your PCP will not do much other than reccommend you to a GI. Even with a GI, I'd suggest a Hepatologist as well.

Get the Hep B Panel test done, this will tell you your status. It will include all numbers, most important will be HBV Dna, ALT/AST and if possible where you are, HBSAG in Quantitive.

Sorry, might have some mispellings here. It's early where I am right now lol Based on all these numbers, you could potentially qualify for treatment unless of course your body cleared it.

Your primary dr. Can run a hep b panel to determine if you passed the virus on your own. Since you were diagnosed at 20 years old, you probably passed the virus, as 95% of adults do. Did your mother have hep b? Did your dr 40 years ago, say it is chronic?

Getting back to a hep b panel!!!!!

If your panel comes back:
Hbsag negative
Hbsab. Positive
Hbcab. Positive
Then you had hep b and your immune system knocked it out.

If hbsag comes back positive, you need a referral to a hep specialist.
