Okey Dokey, Board - the healing continues!! Wooo Hooo!
The Horrid Event started with a bang on Sept 8, and now, Sept 30, the PICC line is out. I am a free woman.
David, when will you be in NYC? I hope we can get together soon.
My stomach has been a mess, even with the omeprazol, (sp), some Tums and tons of probiotics and yogurt. Now that the line is out, I get a short reprieve from antibiotics until my next appt with the infectious disease doctor in a week or so. Oh man, it would be great to eat without pain.
I gained a ridiculous amount of water weight when I was in the hospital, and I have lost over ten pounds in the two weeks I have been out. The diuretics are doing their job. When I was incarcerated- I mean hospitalized, I was a uncomfortably puffy sick mess. Now I am not sick, not a mess, and back to my normal level of puffiness.
My liver and kidneys seem to have come through the ordeal unscathed. A few lab numbers are a bit worse than they had been, but only by a small amount, and there is still more healing to be done. My body took a pretty bad hit with that bacteremia. I think the hardest hit was my brain.
I despise lactulose so much that I decided that as long as my brain was getting clearer each day, I could put off using the lactulose. My brain is not right. Certain parts of my memory are not working. I got a notebook to carry around and write things down. I will give it a few days more, then re-evaluate taking the lactulose. When I got home from the hospital, I did not feel safe driving. Now the driving is fine, but short term number/math memory is very bad. Also, the ability in general to find the right word. I can often describe what the word means, but the word itself eludes me. Very, very annoying.
Anyway, thanks to all of you who prayed/thought of me, and those of you who wrote. I feel very fortunate to have found this board - filled with kind and knowledgeable people.
Susan
