Post- Liver transplant now I can't talk or walk

I had a liver transplant back in 2011 due to a liver failure bc of hep b. After I woke up from a coma and the transplant now I can't talk or walk (can't stand up or even sit still. my big toes would curl and left ankle is very weak and the knees would lock when trying to stand up) ever since. I went to multiple neurologists and all they said was it will take time or i can't even be back to normal again. Anybody used to experience the same symptoms I m having??

Welcome to the Hep forum. I am so sorry to hear of your complications, Slicknick.

I have not heard of anyone with your type of transplant complication. We do have members who have had a liver transplant. I hope they will stop by soon to welcome you, and share their experience. Glad you found us. Know we care. Big Hugs

SK...My partner Mike had his TP in 2011 also. He has had a series of issues that may or may not be related to the TP. His tendons keep tearing...shoulders 3 times, and recently had an elbow repaired. He has 4 disks that likely need surgery. His Aortic valve was replaced in 2014, and he has had two large hernias in his liver incision.

But he is alive and dealing with his issues a day at a time.

Your situation sounds tragic. I am hoping you find a doc and therpy program that can help you return to good health.

I had a transplant in 2009 and was told that I could die, have a stroke, become paralyzed and a number of other negative outcomes, due to the surgery. Were you informed of these possible scenarios ahead of time ?

I'm sorry you are having problems. I'm guessing that your docs warned you of side effects before your transplant. It's unfortunate that something went wrong.

4 years before my transplant, I had 2 cerebral hemorrhages. With therapy, I recovered about 80% of my functions, though my speech, memory and balance is still off and will never be the same. I'm resigned to that, and am thankful it isn't worse.

Keep working on your therapy. Never stop trying. You have to think positively. Good luck!
