Hello AkiFeelsYucky,
I'm not big on holistic medicine for treating this disease. That being said, I think it also depends on individual circumstances. My initial presentation was quite severe so there was absolutely no way around Western medicine. If you have a mild case, I say try it out but be sure you are also monitored by a hepatologist so they can stay on top of inflammatory changes. I'm happy you are on pred much as most people have a love/hate relationship with that drug
Also know that not all supplements are good for a troubled liver. The ones you're taking are likely fine, I'd just let your hepatologist know.
The longer you stay in an inflammatory state, the harder it is on your liver and you risk scarring (cirrhosis)...you don't want to do that.
Look into the inflammatory diet stuff while you're at it too. There's one out there called The Plan by Lyn-Genet Recitas.
Most people abstain fully from alcohol as there is no need to stress your liver out. Some people after they have been stable for years are allowed by their doctors to have an occasional glass. I opted to never have any more. You should definitely not have any until you are considered stable.
Your line of "a life of medicines dictating your happiness" seems a bit skewed. My meds keep me alive. I make my own happiness because I'm alive. Without them, I would've died years ago because I was so sick when first diagnosed. It is a potentially fatal illness so do take that seriously and make sure that you have very regular blood work while trying out the natural way to heal.
If your inflammatory markers do not improve, you may want to seriously consider going on immunosuppressants. They are better for you long term than pred. They are considered "steroid-sparing" medications.
Let me know how your biopsy results turn out.
