It will be 6 years since Mike's transplant. He has had his ups and downs, but the issues were bascially NOT liver related. Most recently he had a big back surgery in December and bionic Mike was out there this weekend playing 18 holes..back to his old scores on the first round in a long time.

So, for now, all is well.

He had a Fibroscan on Thursday of last week. We don't have the numbers yet, but the doc looked on while they did the test and told us there might be some early evidence of fatty liver, but no fibrosis or cirrhosis. Woo Hoo.

Since he did not clear his Hep C before transplant I have worried that there could have been damage to his nice new liver during that time. Evidently I worried for no reason...no cancer, on chirrhosis, his new heart valve is ticking along nicely, his back doesn't hurt..life is good.

Hope all is liver land are doing well tonight.

WOW!!! no fibrosis, no cirrhosis. great report.. Did he have his back fused with hardware?? I had my neck fusion last year. made a big difference for me.. I remember Connie asking me why I don't use capital letters in my posts. I told her I couldn't type with my left hand.. well, I can now!!! but I still don't. I can type faster with one hand, then relearn typing with two..

I hope you are working through your issues.. I sure miss reading your posts.

im doing OK.. My brother takes up a lot of my time. His AFP, shot up to 660. that has halted his transplant evaluation process. hes been sober a year and passed the mental evaluation. that was a tough one. he is bipolar.. and now the dr says, there is a afp threshold of 500.. hes going in for ct scan next week.
if he is not eligible, he will start chemo. I will post next week after I get his exam. funny how I get more nervous about him, then I did for myself..

What wonderful news to hear that Mike is doing great! Successful back surgery and back out on the golf course!
I hope that you are feeling better too so that you can enjoy life together! You both certainly deserve that.

Lower spine, 6+ inch incision from L 5 to tail bone...I am not that up on back surgeries. I did watch a UTube movie of the surgery...gasp...cutting, clipping, and hammering are involved.

He is doing very well....though he has had 8 major surgeries since the transplant.

I had my follow up MRI last Friday and will meet with pancreas guy on this Friday to look at whatever is going on in my pancreas. Hoping nothing serious. The docs at MD Anderson will review the MRI also to see if my appendix cancer has spread to other areas. I don't know if I have to go to Texas this spring.

Same old, same old here. Day by day.

It was 92 F today. Ahhh.

Hi to all our HW friends, hoping meds are knocking out Hep C and that those on transplant lists face smooth sailing.

He has a question, for anyone out there who is interested in Transplants. At 6 years, Mike's antirejection med (prograf) has been reduced to .5 mg once a day. This is amazing to me. I don't hear from too many TP survivors these days.

The doc said that within the next year they are going to try him on NO ANTIREJECTION med and see how he does.

Anyone?

great news that he is doing well at .5 mg. once daily. going to be very interesting to follow his reaction to no prograf. He has endured sooooo much, it would be a blessing to see this happen..and succeed.

I want to wish both of you the very best.. I hope your scans last month were favorable..

My scans were to follow the excision of an appendix tumor last year. It was a mucinous tumor that causes a condition known as PMP. You can look that one up. The treatment is awful. My mucin seems not to have spread at this time. Back in a year.

BTW I found a good online support group for that...very nice folks...helpful and willing to share just like here.

I have a cyst in my pancreas that is also mucinous and they are having me back to MD Anderson in Houston in August to do an EUS test (upper endoscopy with biopsies and aspiration of cyst) to see if it is benign, malignant, or one of those that you have to watch and see which way it goes. My cancer antigen blood work was inconclusive. Fingers crossed for Cystadenoma instead of Adenocarcinoma. Stay tuned.

I have myself convinced that I'm okay because I am focused, busy with my community activities, taking YOGA, posting here some, active politically in my community, travelling to Houston alone, and looking after my sister who lives 8 miles away with progressing Alzheimer's Disease...I'm sure I'm fine for now. Thanks for asking.

Good to hear from Carol. It's really good to hear that your tests in Houston went well. As always, I am keeping you and Mike in my prayers for continued good health and wellness. Thoughts for good results when you need to go back for more tests in August.
