Hi all,
I'm going for a biopsy next week having undergone many tests over the last year since my Dr saw some elevated lfts. ( alp 70, ast 55, ggt 50 alt 110 pretty consistently)
I'm negative for hep a b and c, autoimmune genes, haemachromatosis, drink moderately, am right in the normal bmi range.
No scarring a a fibroscan score of 6.1 .ultrasound and mri showed nothing abnormal.
So having eliminated the usual stuff what could this be?
Thanks!

Hi localhero and welcome,
Your upcoming biopsy will give your dr much more info..your dr has covered all the bases to this point.
All you can do is wait for the results.

Thanks PPM,
I appreciate the reply, as you can imagine I've worked myself up that this could be any number of disaster scenarios that mightnt be an issue now but can only go one direction.
I've no option but to sit tight for now of course but with the main things eliminated what else is this likely to be?
Thanks again!

Has your dr asked you to stop all alcohol for a couple months, then retesting? High enzymes with a high ggt, could suggest alcohol or certain prescript
ion drugs. This should have been addressed..
I assume the balance of your liver tests are normal, or you would have listed them..
Your biopsy will check for iron, and copper deposits. It will analyze the tissue sample for abnormalities that ultrasound can not detect. I stay away from making guesses. It can lead to further anxiety. Let me know how your biopsy goes

Thanks again PPM. Yep I stopped drinking for 5 weeks which dropped ggt from 62 to 50...both in the normal range. Everything else was normal too. Yes I think I need to avoid the guessing and have some patience.
Thanks for the help, I'll let you know where I get to...

LH, look up the ratio between AST and ALT. With Alcoholic cirrhosis, the ratio is generally 2 to 1...which this one is...the docs will spot that right away. NO alcohol is the best advice. Good luck. Mama Lama

Hi MamaLama, if it is alcohol related that would be a relief as I can do something about
it. I thought however my ratio was 0.5 (ast/alt)? I'm still Learning needless to say...
Thanks again

I may have had it upside down. Plenty of articles...check google.
Here is one:
