My Bill has passed away.

It has been many very hard years for my husband Bill. Bill lost his fight 12/7/18 This forum helped us learn how to fight. And he tried his best to live a full life the best he could. I wish I could post he died peacefully but I can't. Bill had H.E really bad some days. It's really hard being the only caregiver and having to work to pay our bills. So his sister started helping take care of him . Bill was a good talker and talked her into thinking he was good to drive. Well Bill got lost driving on a very cold winter night this passed December. Unfortunately by the time he was found 4hrs away from home he had passed away in his van all by himself. My message here is please watch your loved ones close. Don't let them drive thinking oh he s fine. Because No they are not fine. H.E can hit any minute. Fine one minute and bam H.E hits them and they don't know who they are or where they are.Sorry to be so blunt but just need you all to know how bad H.E can get. Hello Dorthy, Encephalopathy is hurtful to anyone exposed to it. Be that patient , caregiver or friends. I found myself getting lost in our tiny town and absolutely terrified, Which way is home? Went to use my cell and Call wife and friends but couldn't remember how to unlock phone. I was less than 15 minutes from my home but couldn't tell ya how to get there. Police friend who happened to see my Jeep pulled over on shoulder and got me back home. I've been over 12 years since my TIPS surgery, but HE still creeps up on me. I should have taken lactulose at the onset of feeling woozy. Unfortunately trying to get the super syrupy concoction down my throat found me gagging most of the time. I always said if hell had water-fountains most likely they only dispensed Lactulose.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It is my hope if a soul exist beyond death David, Connie (Hep93) and others I've witnessed die fighting. Hopefully have found peace. No more tears or uncertainty of what tomorrow brings.Keep ya head up and know that you did the best you could. I've seen caregivers who have walked out when the chips get down. I been as fortunate as Bill was. My wife spent evenings after long days of work to come and sit with me in the hospital and keep us from losing everything. I wish you the best in a new chapter in your life.

Hi Dorothy, I am very sorry for your loss. The emotional turmoil and problems that caregivers face may seem unbearable at times and adding to that, the pain of losing your husband must be very difficult. You are very considerate and kind to share your experience (sad as it is) in such a way that others may learn from it. As you and your sister-in-law go through the grieving and healing process remember there is no correct way to grieve and no prescribed amount time.
