Worried about health after long term drinking

Hi,

I'm a 41 year old female who has recently had a suspected case of acute gastritis. I have had an ecg, liver and kidney function blood tests and a full blood count all of which have come back absolutely positive. Normally this would be excellent news but I have been a long term (roughly 10 years with about 11/2 years off due to having a child) wine drinker - approximately a bottle a night.

I'm currently on one a day PPI (two weeks in) and feel ok. I have only the odd twinge/burning feeling.

My anxiety levels have hit the roof at the moment (mainly because I'm worried about the possible damage and the fact that this has happened in the middle of a pandemic) leading me to have spoken to several doctors regarding possible organ damage. Their response is that they are not concerned because of my blood results. I don't suffer from excruciating pains nor have I at any time had a fever as I have read that many people have suffered.

My question is that, although I'm probably fine and don't have anything to worry about and that it's only 2 weeks since I had the main attack, has anyone else had similar experiences and what was the outcome? Has anyone had experience of going on to suffer further on down the line?

(P.S - I haven't touched alcohol since)

Hello, I'm a recovering alcoholic. Nowadays hepatitis or liver disease has come leaps and bounds from my diagnosis about 15 years ago. If ya liver and or kidney was severely damaged surely it would have shown up in blood-work. It's best to start out with gastro. DR. If the prior diagnosis wasn't satisfactory for you. Gastro Dr. will set you up with a Hepatologist should he find something outta whack. Personally I think your just a bit paranoid. Understandable as we all are a bit shaken from sitting at home watching news about pandemic. It's become obvious nobody knows where that's gonna end. I live down south and I worry about mosquitoes as big as a vulture, I figure I'm more likely to die from hemorrhaging or having myself relieved of all my blood from one of these beast. Living life in fear is not living, We are all destined to die. Appreciate what you have and not what you might have. Best of luck with sobriety.

Thanks A.Ziffle. You're totally correct... I am extremely paranoid😬😬😬 I'm not used to being ill and this has hit me for six. Since stopping drinking I'm paranoid about every ache and pain that I have.

I've a feeling of anger towards myself for knowing the dangers of drinking but feeling invincible. Im paranoid about leaving my young son motherless (and yes should have thought about that before drinking) and feeling regret that I've got myself into this position. Then feeling guilty that I'm wallowing in self pity when there are thousands upon thousands losing their lives across the world.

I know I need to get a grip. Suffering from anxiety is the pits😔! This has definitely been a wake up call.

I hope you're doing ok with you're condition x

I,m fine, but not perfect. Get yourself involved with helping your community or join a church group of your choosing. You need a source of focus on the next chapter of ya book.
