Prayers needed urgently!!!!

Hello all,

I just receive some news from Barbara. Gene is having increased Encephalopathy today and his condition has worsened all day. Barbara is very worried that he is nearing a coma. I am asking all to Pray for Gene and Barbara. I know this is a very difficult thing to go through!

Thank you all for your kind words, support and most of all prayers.

Gene still has severe encephalopathy but has stabalized and appears to be gradually improving. I know all your prayers and Donna's angels have helped get us through these frightening times.

The most frustrating part is the doctors cannot determine the cause or causes for Gene's sudden decline. Yes, I saw subtle indications for days, but on Thursday he was near the coma stage.

All Gene's lab results have been normal or near normal. He should be dancing the Polka; but he isn't. His iron levels have returned to normal and perhaps his toxcity is from the short term iron supplements. Bless your heart Val, you warned us but we had no other options.

His Doctor yesterday thought perhaps the low iron reading earlier this month was an error; that could have been a fatal mistake but is typical of the medical care we receive or don't receive.

We're awaiting results of the culture to rule out a UTI.
Another time I'll post our most recent nightmare experience with the medical establishment.

Hi everyone,

All the prayers worked. yeah

Gene slept in this morning. When he got up, he was almost back to his "normal" self. I'm relieved and overjoyed. I couldn't have done it without all of you. Especially Donna and Teresa who stuck by me the whole time; love you girls.

We will never know the cause of this encephalopathy which came on suddenly and cleared the same way. But I'm certain all the prayers and positive energy are responsible for Gene's healing.

My continued prayers for Valerie and Bruce and all my friends on the forum. Thank you Cindy for finding us in our moment of need.

Hi Everyone,


Gene keeps fluctuating back and forth between encephalopathy and feeling better. We made it to the Hepatologist consultation this morning. This is the doctor who has been there for us and who we trust. He seems to be on the same track as we are.



The doctor agrees with me that Gene;s current problerms are liver toxcity from the iron supplements but that there should be no permanent damage. He thinks the March 1st anemia readings were errors because anemia does not improve that fast. However people with Esocphageal cancer usually don't live two years without tx or progression of the disease.



The doctor listened patiently and answered all our questions. Gene discussed the mild chest pains hes had a few times this past week. I'm hoping they are from the resolving toxcity rather than heart problems. We're waiting to hear how they will follow up with this.



We both also seem to have a touch of the stomach flu.



And Val, sweetie, it's so wonderful to have you back with us. I felt so touched to have your IM on my PC when I woke this morning. It was an honor to support Bruce through this crisis.You have been here for us and would do the same thing for us. But please don't rush into things; your body needs to rest and heal. We love you.

Hi Everyone,

Gene seems to get weaker and weaker as the day progresses; I'm so frustrated that neither his doctor or the Complex Chronic Care nurse returned my calls.

This up and down Encephalopathy is driving me over the edge. From hour to hour I don't know how he is going to be. This evening it took him a half hour just to put his clothes back on after sleeping for five hours this afternoon.

This morning he was fairly with it; but by the end of the appointment he was slipping back into E.

What can I do? As soon as I post good news, he regresses.

I couldn't do it with out all my friends on the forum.

Gene is having one of his better days. We saw the doctor and repeated all the lab tests. Everything came back fine and the EKG was normal. We're still awaiting the iron reading which will determine which reading was incorrect.

I'm a wreck but pleased Gene is bouncing back again. What frustrates me is not knowing what is setting him off so we can't do anything to head off problems. As soon as I post he has a problem he rebounds; then when I post he's better another problem pops up. I need to learn to take everyday as it comes; good or bad.
