does cat scan diagnose chirrosis

Here is my dilema.  My hubby 60 was diagnosed with hep c as his enzimes were high when he went  for an annual exam.  The he was sent to a liver specialist ..this was about 5 years ago.  They did not do a liver bio but said he had a fatty liver and perhaps he should lose weight. I read on the report that he said he only has 2 beer a week which is a lie as in the past he has been a heavy drinker but now just goes on binges.   Then he was sent back to his regular dr and he tested him once a year and as of the last testing his enzimes we fine ast 42 alt 60.  I notice he seems to be tired and constantly has anger outbreaks for no reason and does not seem to have a long attention span when someone is talking I notice he seems to stop paying attention. He also tends to repeat himself a lot.    He does not ever want to talk about the hep c and says as long as his enzimes are fine he is okay.  We went away on vacation a few months ago and he had a lot of pain in right side and the emergency dr gave him a cat scan.  When the reults came back it said suggest chirrosis although there was no enlarged sleen and 3 enlarged lymph nodes.   I wish I had copied everything but I did not.  When the dr phoned him back and when he started talking about the liver my hubby said pain is gone and my reg dr is taking care of me.   When we came home he took the report to his dr and the dr said oh no everything is under control you do not have chirrosis  look at your enzimes....although did not retest.  then he said that is just because you had jaundice 35 yrs ago. He did not even talk about the enlarged lymph nodes. I am curious about them    His dr decribes his situation as virtually inactive with no signs of liver disease.  My question is why would catscan show suggesting chirrosis if not there.  I do notice around his eyes sometimes kind of yellow.  He seems depressed and will not talk to me .  Any suggestions or should I stop worrying and leave in hands of dr   I do tend to be a worrier and cannot talk to anyone as he does not want anyone to know he has it.  I was tested and I do not have it.  To the rest of you struggling with hep c I wish you all the bst.  thanks for listening     

Thank you Teresa for responding.  No he has never been treated becasue his dr says he will just monitor his enzime levels and says thr hepc is virtually inactive however he knows I do not know.    I sometimes try to tell him that the dr should look at other things but he gets mad and says I am not a dr and that his dr knows what he is doing.  I guess when the ct says suggests cihrossis they see something for sure.  thanks again 

Hi, Hamilton! I have chronic hep C that was diagnosed by biopsy in '93. I didn't receive much treatment, with the result being a diagnosis of inoperable liver cancer in May '05. Until that time, my liver enzymes never were really high--usually no more than twice normal. With the CA, some went to 3 x normal. I have received 2 different treatments, and presently the CA tumor is mostly dead. My only real symptom through the years since diagnosis was increasing fatigue. I do not have cirrhosis, according to the biopsy and subsequent CT scans and MRIs.

I agree that your hubby sounds ill and needs a proper diagnosis and treatment. Do you think you can get him to a hepatologist (specialist in liver disease?)

thank you I will see if I can get him to get another doctor. It is not going to be easy as he keeps insisting there is nothing wrong. Thanks again to all of you that took the time to respond it means a lot to have this type of support. Oh and if anyone has any info on the enlarged lymph nodes that were found during the cat scan. One more thing the last time he went to dr I suuggested that I come in with him and he said I am not a child. I know he never tells the doc he is tired and just says he is fine. I keep trying to come up with ways to get him to talk sometimes I think he knows more than what he is telling me. bye for now
