We don't understand it. He is diagnosed with ESLD; hasn't had any alcohol since August; was near death two time in ICU this fall; came home in really crappy shape and required 24/7 care; incontinent; severely mentally confused; fainting spells and mini seizures from low blood pressure; explosive bowel movements from the Lactulose; using a walker, but only with assistance; had to get private duty over night care 3 times a week so I could sleep; finally got him to agree to Hospice in January.


His diuretics were withdrawn because of his low blood pressure and low sodium.



A miracle. Slowly he came back. He now has the hospice aide make him breakfast except on the weekend; can make his own bed; clean cat litter boxes; do his laundry and mine; makes his own lunch; walks without a walker or cane, although his osteoarthis in his knees is hurting him since the removal of the pred; and he was cleared by a physical therapist this week to drive. We have to go practice in the school parking lot this week.



Except for creatinine, his blood value are all back in the normal range. We just don't believe it, but we are so thankful.

Hi Venita,

That's wonderful news. I'm glad you and Jim have your lives back again. Your story gives hope to others also. May it continue for many years. Continue doing all you can to keep Jim's liver stable and stay on top of any changes. Enjoy your miracle.

My wonderful Gene had almost four years of being stable before his latest, and sadly final decline which has taken my breath away along with his. The esophageal cancer did not spread so we are not dealing with pain, only swallowing difficulty. Gene is still miracle boy even as he nears the end of this long battle. Hospice is finally there for us totally.

((((Barb)))) I am so glad your Gene remains the miracle boy and the one you adore. And the support you are getting from your church, and now finally Hospice, is great. As our situation improves, yours declines, and I am very sorry for that. I wish you both the best as your story continues.

ANOTHER JIM UPDATE

Jim "graduates" from Hospice effective Monday. He is driving alone, maybe goes out 4 days a week for a couple hours on his own. He's back to reading detective novels voraciously and, of course now that regular season baseball is back, watching the Phillies everyday.

Things are really looking good for him right now.

Thanks for asking about me, Teresa. I still am having trouble with the failed reconstructive surgery, but I am now back in physical therapy. Through all the surgeries, so much muscle mass was taken or traumatized that I am in chronic pain and have very diminished range of motion. But we're working on that!!
