HI my husband has cirrhosis and just found out he has lymphocytics leukemia.How bad is this combined? I tried to find symptoms on the web But cant  find any thing yet.Ive read the post almost every day.I had learned alot from all of you.Im kind of confused about my husband symptoms because he doesnt complain much. He does have fluid build up in his stomache he looks like hes 8months pregnant,real skinny.hes 6' use to weigh175 went down to 154. Now hes back up to 174 with in a month.No muscles mass.He almost looks like a walking skeleton. he hasnt put on any weight except in his stomache. I barely Got the liver dr to help me with his medscore wich is at 15.this is what im confused with because my husband still works full time.He just doesnt seem that sick to me.I know he has a high tolerance for pain.Oh he does get a lot of cramps in his legs. How high does the medscore go up to.The drs said he was going to send him to LAto be put on the list for a liver because his medscore was so high.But dosnt think he will be excepted. Dont get me wrong Im thankful hes not in a lot of pain.OF what i know of.It just doent seem like it to me. confused Thanks to you all mewife

Hello Medwife, Good to hear from you again. Sorry to here about this new development with your husband. How are you holding up?
My husband didn't complain much either about pain. Even when his score was at 20. Some men don't like to complain to women about pain. It's a macho thing. They don't want to appear to be weak.
If your husband's meld score is at 15 he is pretty sick. I believe the meld score can go up to the low 30's. I take it you are in California correct?
I think that the California transplant centers have one of the longest waits. Most transplants here are probably done in the 20's. In some other states it a lot lower. It's supply and demand that dictates how long the wait is.
The doctor that is sending him to LA is he a GI doctor ?

Hello Pink Grandma, I thankyou for responding.Im doing alot better now.Thanks to you ,shelly and the rest. this forum is awesome.I just kept reading the posts.I want to thank you all.Yes i live in california.hes the gastro dr. .He has an app with the cancer dr. on tuesday.Iwant to go with him I dont know if my boss will let me.We work at the same place just diffrent departments.How do you go about trying to get a liver else where?

medwife, I am so sorry that your husband has both diseases. I wish I could give you some encouraging news but leukemia is quite serious and in combination with liver disease I am a bit concerned. I am glad he will be seeing the Oncologist Tuesday. He/she will devise a treatment plan for him immediately I hope. I would really like to see you go with him as an extra set of ears. Sometimes the info is overwheming and the patient doesn't hear everything the Dr says. That's when it helps to have someone else with him. If you do go please try to write down all your questions before the appointment and when the Dr answers them write down the answers. It helps alot to do that. You can refer to it when you need to. You may want to ask the Dr how aggressively they will be treating him. I would certainly try to push for the aggressive treatment plan if I were there with him. Although in all fairness I'm not sure how aggressive they can be right now. Keep an open mind, stay focused, and try to get ALL your immediate questions answered. Don't be afraid to ask for a prognosis after he is evaluated. I believe it is always better to know what you're up against. The Dr may not want to discuss prognosis yet but at some point it will have to be. Keep us posted and my thoughts and prayers are with you both.
