Hi i've been a member of hw since 2004 dealing with crohns disease. My hubby on the other had has hepc with cirrhosis. He's been on 4 treatments for his hep to no avail he'll go to the dr. for awhile then he'll get fed up and stop. He was told way back in 93 that he would need a liver transplant in 5 years well it's 08 and he's really done quite well.I'm really getting worried though as symptoms progress so i need some advice does this sound like esld. He has the itching,gets cold easy color not to great the latest symptoms are an enlarged spleen and i do know his blood platelets are low i don't have the numbers our gi wanted to run a series of test on him but he backed out. He does have an appt with a new dr. and i don't even know what kind of dr he is but he came highly recommended. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Hello AuntKay and welcome to the Hep forum. All those symptoms are common for liver disease patients.
If he is being treated by a GI and he is referring him to another doctor. It is probably a Hepatologlist. They are the experts of the liver. So he really should go.
For him to last this long is great, but he won't last forever. His liver can only take so much damage before it starts failing. He needs to get on the transplant list. And the Hepatologist can get him there.
But he needs to follow all the doctors orders. Even if it's a double back flip. And sometimes that is what you feel like you are doing for them. I have been there and done that with my husband so please believe me.
Does your husband use the computer? If so have him read some of these posts. They are very educational when it comes to Liver Disease.
