My father has the itchy skin and the sores all over him. He's been on benadryl injections for ages. Well, we found something that really works. Aveeno makes a colloidal oatmeal bath that is FANTASTIC for this. My father is almost 100% healed up, despite the fact that his ESLD gets worse. Where he had oozey yellow sores, he now has pink skin growing. It's amazing. ANd the relief he feels from it, while not 100%, is tremendous.

Walmart carries their version of the same product and it's twice the product for half the price. Just thought I'd share. I know that the itching is one of those side effects of this disease that will drive people insane, and if someone else can find relief from it, then that makes me happy.

Thanks for the info, Trisha!  I'm glad that your dad has found relief.  I have some back itching about 5 days a week, but suspect it may be dry skin rather than my liver disease.  I really like Aveeno products.  I use their Positively Radiant w/SPF 30 facial moisturizer.  A little bit goes a long way.  For something like an oatmeal bath, though, a generic brand would probably work as well.

OMG Trish

My husband has been dealing with the itching for a year at least.  Its so bad that I have to scratch him all night long.  He is on three prescriptions for it.  I am certain we have bought every cream at Wal Mart.  Have not tried this.  It makes me want to go to Wal Mart right now.  Thanks for the great info.

JoAnn, you are very welcome! Like I said, we use the Walmart version. I tired it last week when I went to buy him some more Aveeno. I was afraid he wouldn't find as much relief, but he has. We also use the Aveeno (walmart version) Daily Moisturizing lotion with colloidal oatmeal in it. It's fragrance and dye free, so it doesn't burn the sores that are already open.

Hope your husband finds some relief as well!
