Hi everyone

 I am writing for my mom.She is 80 yrs old with ESLD due to blood transfusions that she had years ago.

My questions is she has been having quite a few bloody noses.Is this normal for ESLD? Last night she woke up and the blood was just pouring out of her nose.

Any input will be great appreciated.

Hi, Baroni, and welcome to the forum.  Liver patients do have problems with clotting.  Has your mom had any blood work done lately?  If she's under the care of a hepatologist or GI doc, you might want to contact that doc about what is happening.

She did just have blood work.Everything is very low, Iron, Ferritin, Hemoglobin. She is going in tomorrow for an iron infusion, as she also has a blood problem.Tellemisa(dont think that it is spelled correctly)I did email her Dr.letting him know of her recent bloody noses.She had another one this evening.

Also, she seems to be very forgetful lately. Her thinking process is off whack, for lack of a  better way to explain it.

Just wanted to add my welcome to the forum.

Please make sure you bring up your mom's issues, both the frequent nose bleeds and forgefulness, at her doctors appointment. Liver patient's have a tendency to retain ammonia due to lack of flitering and can cause some forgetfulness and odd behaviors, but due to your mother's age there could be lots of other things going on not liver related.

Again welcome and I hope you get good news at your mother's appointment.

Yes that is the word.However,my mom is full blood Italian Her Dr also calls it the Mederterian blood disorder.

Hello Jo-Ann and welcome to HealingWell. Sorry that your mom has this disease. The bloody noses is kind of common for a lot of ESLD patients as you were already told. My husband used to get them quite frequently.

I looked it up on line.There is a Beta Thalassemia,It effects Mediterrianan Greek,Italian, Middle Eastern, Asian, and African.
From what I could read there are several kinds of Thalassemia's. One called an Alfa one a Beta,and others
