Hi From a Newbie

I have been browsing this forum a lot over the last couple of weeks and thought I should say hello.

I have found great comfort in some of the stuff I have read, and at the same time some of the stuff has been difficult to read.

At the moment, I have nothing else to say, but I am sure that will change.

Why am I here?

My Auntie is in hospital with ESLD and I am heartbroken. I visited her last week and will go again this weekend, but this week is going so slowly .... it is driving me mad.

She is an alcoholic, although has not admitted that (at this stage, there is not a lot of point in pushing that issue). She has been pretending she is dying from lung cancer for about 18 months, so I guess she has known about this for some time. She denied herself any medical treatment for most of that time as they moved house and she did not register with a new doctor. She has malnutrition, ascites and brain damage. She had a seizure two weeks ago today and went into Intensive Care where they gave her only a few hours to live. On the Friday they stopped all treatment and left things to nature. Last week the doctors were amazed that she was still alive as they knew she had given up the will to live. Despite everything we had some very sensible chats last week, and had some laughs too - which was great. They are talking about sending her home from hospital which will be great. All we want is for her last moments to be comfortable etc.
