Connie,
I've been through this before, as this is my second marriage, as my first wife (of 36 yrs) died of lung cancer. Her decline was very rapid after becoming symptomatic, however I was her sole caregiver while she was sick. She was able to remain at home until the week she passed away, so as they say here in Texas, "this is not my first rodeo."
I'll get a break this week when Janie's older daughter and family come for Christmas. Since she teaches school and is off until Jan 4th, she may stay through the holidays. Other family members are really good at giving me a break, as my step-son only lives a couple of miles away. He is a Police officer, and is off on Wed, Thurs, and Friday, so he helps me out during the week so I can go into the office for 2 or 3 days. I am very fortunate to be able to tele-commute the remainer of the week, otherwise I would have to quit working to care for her. As her disease continues to progress, I don't know how this arrangement will work out, but I have faith that we will get through this ordeal somehow. Going to the office and hanging out with the guys is my therapy, otherwise I would burn out.
