update

I am concerned for my mum as her date for getting out approaches.

She is just finishing her antibiotics, and her wound has healed up good.

Her mobility is stillpretty poor.although she walks up the corridor. Last night, went in to visit, she was lying in bed covers off all exposed.her face and hands were covered in chocolate, she was stuffing herself with chocolate biscuits, the wrappers were everywhere. her speech was quite slow she sounded high(dont know if that was the choc), she did not remember me being in the previous day.

her partner was there in his own usual sarcastic tone, he said he was better off without her, loved having the house to himself and he did not want her home. He kept going on about her being high asking if she had a drink. hospital says she has to go home when her course finishes, I worry for her. she is refusing rehab and wants home. i am going to phone her consultant today, her arms have came up in more bruises, her eyes are twitching constantly and she is exhausted. i will let you know how i get on.....

Linx, what led you to come to this forum?  Do you, or someone who is close to you, have a liver disease?   I welcome you to start a new post if you, or someone close to you, has liver disease.

Allie, is she still on Lactulose?  If so, I would have to think that it needs to be increased.  You might request visiting nurses when she is released, if that is something that is available over there.  They can keep an eye on her.  I know your concern is that she will drink again once she gets home, and the truth is that she probably will.  You can ask about them ordering a walker for her to use at home, if the one she has been using hasn't been purchased for her.  The danger is in her falling and knocking out the hip replacement.  She also needs a chair or bench for the tub or shower and a handheld shower attachment.   Make sure that everything she needs is at waist-high access, as she can't bend down low nor climb.  She also will need a riser that goes over the toilet seat to make it higher.  Speak to the PT at the hospital about all this and to order it for her before she is discharged.  These are things that you actually CAN do.  Keeping her from drinking or forcing her to go to rehab are things you CANNOT do.

I finally manged to speak to her consultant today.  He related his concerns to me about my mum. More scans have been done to ensure that she has not had another stroke. She had not. She is getting Lactolose, three times a day, but the nurses are having to stand over her to ensure that she takes it. Consultant is saying, that soon she will have to leave the hospital, they have came to the conclusion that her brain is damaged from her alcohol abuse and it is causing confusion, drunk appearance etc, she wants home.  When i went in tonight she was in the corridor, hosp gown on, exposed at the back you could see her underwear, she was bent over as if touching her toes trying to pick up do cakes which she had dropped. Again her gown and bed were stained and covered in chocolate she was in a right mess. She is supposed to use a wee tool to help her pick up things because of her hip, but she had not.No one seemed to bother. I stripped her bed put clean sheets on and asked someone to shower her. I tried to talk to her about what is happening, it did register a bit but she was so upset. This was my worst fear for her apart from dying, she is strong in so many ways and if it is dementia what is her future, a lot still needs to be answered.I am not looking forward to it...

YEH I DO NOT LIKE TO COMPLAIN I HAVE ALREADY HAD SOME ISSUES WITH THE HOSP. SHE IS IN THE ORTHOPEADIC WARD DONT THINK THEY HAVE THE STAFF TO WATCH HER.

Allie would it be best if your mum went to a long term care facility with her issues of confusion?
