I just received news that at my last blood test my Alt was 192 and my Ast 153. What does this mean? I am screwed?
Hi cliodude,
Please don't be too worried yet! As the other posters said, you need to find out why your enzymes are elevated. There are so many reasons that they could be high (fatty liver, celiac sprue, gallbladder problems, a viral infection, etc., etc.)....it may not be anything serious at all. Let your doctor finish testing you and then he or she can make the diagnosis.
Good luck! Please keep us posted!
JoAnn
P.S. Those AST/ALT numbers aren't very high.....I have autoimmune hepatitis, which means that my immune system is making antibodies against my liver (trying to kill it). The very first time I found out I had a problem with my liver my AST and ALT were both over 3200!
