What is this? hep c or toxic hepatitis?

I have so many questions even after becomeing a hcv advocate still does not make any sense. I was an IV user last was eight years ago was tested throughout the years no hep c no hiv. Then in may of 08 i took tegretol and my liver enzymes rose to 1495 i was hospitalized them telling me i had hep c. They did 6 tests only two were positive. I tried to start treatment for hep c but everytime right before tests showed it was gone. This has happened more than six times. My liver enzymes has risen 3 time every time all exactly to 834. I was told in the beginning my liver was like that of a new baby. seven months later i have stage two liver disease with fibrosis withh all the sign of end stage liver disease. tests showed toxic liver in 08 from the tegretol. Liver specialists says treatment for hep c could kill me. Treatment can't be bad if this is the case i have hep c. So now I wonder if this is something more like toxic hepatisis, and they dont want to come out and say for the sake i could sue. How can a person have hep c tests show a viral load and have is gone more than six times? Once you have hep c, you always have it unless undetectable with treatment. And it cant be the i was just exposed all those times and had the 20% of not having it. Its not that god gives me miricles over and over.The liver disease can only get worse if we do nothing Dr. says "lets just sit back and see what happens". What are we waiting for? Cirrosis?  Hello Ann and welcome to HealingWell.

I know that some meds can and do cause liver damage.  Is it the same doctor telling you that you have hep C , that's also prescribed the tegretol?   If so, you may be right about them trying to avoid a law suit. 

If you actually do have Hep C ,  you should still show positive for it whether or not it's inactive or chronic.     My husband had it and somehow he beat the virus.  His doctor said he was one lucky man.  

I definitely would go to a different doctor and get a second opinion.

No It's not the same doctor that gave me the tegretol and she is my second opinion, the first doctor told me this couldnt be hep c because the tests show poss. then negative constantly. The doctor who gave me the medication told me that he ws leaving due to the budget cuts and sent me to a new facility but guess what he is still there and has never left. I think doctors will back others when it come to crap like this. All I really want is answers because I dont want it to get to the point of cirrosis and a transplant.

Ann you are probably right.  It's sad but it's true .....Unfortunately lots of  doctors do cover each other.  So the original doc sent you to the new one..........I smell a rat.  If possible get a 3rd opinion of your own choice and don't tell him/her about the others.  Just have him/her do the blood work and see if he says if you have had Hep C or not.

Ann, I agree with PG.  Also, you should see a GI doc or hepatologist.  For a really definitive diagnosis, have a liver biopsy.  If they ask any questions, tell them you have had some conflicting blood work results and opinions in the past, and would like to go in to see a specialist with a "clean slate," i.e., with him knowing nothing in terms of past results, to see what he has to say.
