Encephalopathy Questions

Thanks Mer - I really don't throw temper tantrums - I am just a pushy woman who is typically well liked 'cause I also help the staff and thank them often... I have had staff members and the TCU residents tell me what a wonderful daughter I am (I feed my mom dinner every single night in the dining room). Hey, whatever it takes to keep up her strength!

My newest hell is not the liver failure of my mom, but now my brothers are acting up. The youngest stole money and emptied out her checking account. My dad is beside himself with grief and that jerk is steeling from his dying mother. Can you get much lower than that foks?

Dad is so upset and worried he can't even make financial or legal decisions. I may need to bring him to our attorney and have him explain the will, trusts and the power of attorney he now has for mom. They had almost all the legal stuff in place - question is, should I talk to him about signing over his power of attorney to me? I am making all the decisions and he wants me to... God, this just sucks. I need to find a meeting... Thanks to all of you for letting me gripe in the site - sorry to be a Debbie downer!

Thanks Sandi! My parents actually did get all the paperwork - power of attorney, living wills etc. so there is a smooth transfer upon their passing - but, I am afraid for my dad right now... They did not plan on mom going first as dad is five years older. Dad and I are going to the transitional care unit to talk to the doctor today about admitting mom to get the encephalopathy cleared up.... I hope to report good news on that front later today.

Sorry about your situation. I guess think kind of thing brings out the worst in people.

Yes, missed my regular meeting tonight because I was getting mom checked in, but called an old timer for support.

I pushed all day for an admit for her Encephalopathy - Mayo was too far so we went to the U of M. No doubt she should have been admitted according to the GI doc and the nurse with 20 years of experience in liver and kidney disease care and transplant. Gee, why did it take me all day? We'll see if we can't get her most of the way back, or figure out if there is another underlying disease. In any event I want answers and we are going to get them. The doc asked me why I thought she was having problems - I told him Abbot kept releasing her too early in my opinion - he appeared to agree.

In the mean time, my brother and his wife stole more money out of her accounts - they activated on-line banking. My other brother and dad shut them down, but rather than my dad being at mom's side, he is sitting in a bank closing out her and his accounts so his youngest son can't steal from them. I am stroking mom's head while they are taking vile after vile of blood and he's stealing from her while she is wasting away from the ravages of liver failure. What I wish for my youngest brother can't be said out loud or on this site.... God, grant me the serenity.....

Plz tell me someone will follow through with charges on these people.. they need to be put in check... hang tight there lady.. praying praying praying for u and urs ... Sandi

I would love to call the police. However, this is not the wish of my dad and my mom would never agree if she was not suffering from Encephalopathy and we could ask her. They have been taking advantage of my parents for a while. I went to a meeting and a member of the fellowship had what I considered to be a good solution - put it back in their hands. In an effort to not create a crisis, but also not prevent one, send an e-mail (which I followed up in a letter) stating it stops now. The choice is theirs. If they commit one more illegal act, I turn everything over to the authorities. Since mom is a "vulnerable adult" at this point, it is not up to family members but rather the authorities. Further, I stated I would cooperate and pointed out the retail stores had pictures and the banking transactions are completely traceable.

Further I said "I don't make idle threats. Trust me, I will move forward and follow through to the full extend of the law. It is in your hands, you can stop being vultures and this will go no further, or you can continue with your criminal activity and face the full extend of the law and my personal wrath."

Mom is not getting any better. I am afraid she will die soon. I do not want her to know about this latest development. She needs peace.
