Hello, everyone!!! Glad to be here to let you know that I have now had my liver transplant. Was called on Friday, June 4th, to come to hospital. Got down here, tests run, Saturday morning bright & early wheeled into surgery for transplant. Surgery took 2.5 hours. Doctors were really pleased with how everything has come along.

The doctor told my sisters that my liver was BIG and just like sandpaper. The cyst they found on my liver was bigger than a saucer but smaller than a bread plate!! On the ultrasound, it showed just 1 cm. So, I guess that doesn't always ring true as far as tests go...

Just thankful that I got a good liver and was able to go through with surgery. Evidently my MELD score was off quite a bit too. Got out of hospital on Wednesday evening. Should have gotten out on Tuesday, but the coordinator decided I needed one more day for all the education to sink in some before letting me go. Good thing too. That was so much information to absorb...

Anyway, thought I would let you all know, I'm still here and doing wonderfully well!!!!!

Silomsandy, that is awesome!  yeah   I can't believe how quickly that happened and that you are already posting!  Best wishes for your continued recovery.  Do keep us posted on how you are doing!

Congratulations! I had a transplant last July and am doing well. You said 2.5 hours for the operation. Mine was 6.5 and that is quick. Where did you have yours and how long were you in the hospital? **David**

So did they take out your gallbladder while they were in there? Bet your glad it's all over and the healing can begin........take care.......thoughts and prayers.......

PG, my understanding is that they always do take the gall bladder when they do a transplant. It is attached to the underside of the rt. lobe. They told me prior to having a rt. lobectomy for cancer that they would also take the gall bladder.

At MGH, they told me that they always remove the gallbladder, as it's likely to be a problem down the road.

Yes, they took the gallbladder out also. It was bad anyway. I had my surgery done at UAMS in Little Rock, AR. Wonderful doctor and team. I am already off insulin. Surgery was on June 5th, (my daughter and son-in-law's 12th anniversary), released from hospital on the 9th, and today (14th) was released to go to my home in NW Arkansas. Will be leaving in the morning to go HOME!!!!

Am so EXCITED about it!!!  I want to thank all of you for your prayers and your ears listening. I appreciate that so much....

GOD has really blessed me this time. I won't forget it neither. I tell everyone that HE is the one!!!

Sandy, That sounds like a record! Four days in the hospital. I was out in 10, and was told that was quick. At MGH, they said a week was their minimum. Congratulations!
