dry itchy spots on stomach and back

I have these itty bitty scab spots scattered over my stomach and  back.  I have ESLD and Hep C.  Does anyone know what these are?

Anotherdayatatime, welcome to the forum.  Do you experience a lot of itching?  They could be from your scratching in your sleep or unconsciously.  Otherwise, I really don't know.  Are you currently seeing a hepatologist?  Perhaps you should bring it to his attention.  Have you or are you currently receiving treatment for you hep C?  Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am using Gold Bond for the itching, I am sure I am not getting them from scratching in sleep. They are pretty "rooted" kinda like they come some where internally, Yes I am seeing a hepatologist. On the standard meds, just got my diuretics doubled as I had my first hospital stay 10 days ago. Have varice veins, enlarged spleen and liver, and the typical symptoms of ESLD. I have been referred to the liver transplant hospital here in Louisville and go for my 3 day evaluation. I just recently went on short term disability. Have extreme fatigue no energy immune system is nil so I keep catching everything it seems. Have good days & have bad days. Dealing with financial crap at present. My platelets are low and they have given me transfusion however didn't do much to bring up. Still trying to accept no control etc.... Thanks for responding I have been feeling sorry for myself today :(

Thanks for the intro.  Is your ESLD from alcohol abuse?  Are you well enough to go to AA meetings?  I've been sober 24+ yrs. thanks to AA, so your screen name and the "acceptance of no control" sort of stood out for me.  I have hep C and cirrhosis and am a liver cancer survivor.

The next time you see a doctor, I'd ask about the scabs.

yes Connie your instincts are correct. Sober since 12-5-99. I was an IV Drug user for all those years, am now 55. Havent got to go to as many meetings lately due to keep getting sick. I will talk to my Doc about the scab things.

Congrats on your sobriety, ADAAT!!  Did you escape hep C?  My IV drug use was in the late 60s and I was diagnosed with hep C in '93.

I'm sorry to hear you're going thru all this. I have ESLD,varices, enlarged spleen and liver also. I have been getting the little scabs the last month but mine are on my ears,scalp,and now starting on my face. They're dry and itchy but I don't scratch them if you touch them they're very tender and sore. Some of them weep or bleed. I made an appointment with my dermatologist and I see him in about 2 weeks. I've been putting polysporin and hydrocortisone cream on them. I hope you can find out what they are and get some relief. Keep us updated. Remember you're not alone.

No I still have hepc. No telling when I contracted it my guess would be early 80's. Dx in 1997. Did not opt for treatment. Viral load is still around 500,000. Did mostly other approaches. Not sure what the transplant team will say. I am not really sold on the treatment, but trying to stay open.

hubby had itching, horrible itching on his arms. He'd wake int he morning bleeding from the scratching.  His doc said it was something with the bile salts and not unusual. He put hubbby on a powered drink he takes 30 minutes after eating called cholestyramine.  it tastes like TANG.  not horrible.  it has controlled the itching 100%!

ADAAT, you might be interested in a new treatment protocol coming in the first half of 2011 that adds a 3rd drug and is having a 75% success rate, plus it only has to be taken for 24 weeks.  I'll learn more when I see my hepatologist next month.

ML, thanks for that info.  That's something to keep in mind for itching.

ADAAT-Good news  I saw the Hepatologist today and she said the scabs are not uncommon in liver disease and they are nothing to worry about.  They are caused by toxins and like acne some people get out breaks while others don't. Don't itch them. If the itching is too bad use calamine lotion,hydrocortisone,or any other anti-itch cream.  Hope this helps.
