Good day to all.Mum has been good until yesterday.After work got home and saw mum was not herself asked her how she feeling and she started to cry.She says that she does not know why but she just feels like crying.Feeling very dizzy and weak.Could not sleep the whole night.This morning she got up to have her breakfast and she could not hold a cookie cos her hands were just shaking.She has been having 3 b/m everyday without lactolose so doctor stopped lactolose but said if she does not have a b/m by 9 in the morning then she needs to take it.

Please let me know if any of you guys felt this way and will it continue? confused

Cindy, thanks for the update. If she is not able to eat, that's probably the cause of her weakness and shakiness. Try to get Ensure or Slim Fast into her....or even pudding or Jello. If she's not better after the morning dose of Lactulose, take her to the ER.

Cindy-when my hubby didn't want to eat anything he would sip on a milkshake. I hope your mom starts to feel better.

Hi there.Thank you so much for your replies.The thing is she was doing so well and now its almost back to square one.Will definitely get the ensure this afternoon for her.She does not going to the ER cos most of the doctors start asking how this started and when she tells them its alcohol related they just seem to not worry.

Thank you so much.Just needed to know if anyone else went through it.I lost my dad last year due to pancreatic cancer.It was hard seeing him just fade away.The pain he endured was too much for him.My mum and dad was close as ever and since then she has been in and out of hospital.When we ask her if something bothering her she says no but i think she just thinks about how her life has changed so drastically.

NST, your MIL sounds like an amazing woman.  Thank you for your lovely posts to Cindy.

Cindy, how long has your mom been sober now?  There does tend to be a stigma attached to those with liver disease caused by alcohol.  It takes getting some time and space from the last drink to have people (even doctors) view you differently.  My liver disease is caused by hep C which I contracted over 40 yrs. ago from IV drug use.  Fortunately, there's been a long enough period of time from that and also from my last drink in '86 so that I don't get that sort of mistreatment.  But doctors do see an awful lot of people with alcoholic cirrhosis or ESLD that continue to drink in spite of how sick they are.

If your mom doesn't like the Ensure, try Slim Fast shakes.  It has virtually the same amounts of vitamins and minerals as Ensure, but has less calories and tastes a heck of a lot better.  I lived on those and soup during cancer treatment and post-surgery.

Hep 93, mum has been sober for over 6 months now and going strong.
Just wanted to know if anybody has taken lactolose and has not worked?

Well, 6 mos. counts for something and that should be highlighted when they ask about what caused her liver disease.

Usually, the Lactulose is increased if it isn't working or Xifaxan is added to it.
