gall bladder w/hep c

I'm from crohns site but am having gb issues, so my question is if you remove gb will hep c get worse or stay the same? I don't drink alcohol, liver and scarring is in stage 1 for disease and stage 2 scarring. any help would be appreciated

Hello Artist and welcome to the hep forum. 

I would get my hepatologists opinion before I'd get my gallbladder out.  They would not take out my husbands because of the fear his bleeding to death because his blood didn't clot as well as it once did.  But I believe he was futher along in the disease than you.  

I have heard of patients having more issues with the liver disease once the gallbladder was removed .   Hopefully someone with first hand experience will pop on soon.

Quite a few people with liver problems end up having their gall bladder removed. When I received a transplant, my surgeon made the point that at MGH, the old gall bladder comes out with the old liver. They do not replace the gall bladder with the transplant, as I was told, "why would we want to give you an organ, that's likely to cause problems down the road." This doesn't mean you need to have it removed, but if your hepatologist recommends it, you might want to listen. They remove gall bladders by laparoscopy, so it's not as traumatic to the patient.

my mom had her gallbladder removed and i swear she went downhill afterwards but it could have been from other issues to.

worried girl, what do you mean other issues? gi related? liver related?

well my mom had ulcers, hep c, cirrhosis of the liver, soemthing else i dont remember the name of it. she was also bipolar and ADD. She used to be a alcoholic and drug addict so it can be a number of factors but she just seemed to get sicker after her gallbladder got removed.

It won't make any difference to your hep c at all. If you are having trouble with your gallbladder you need it out. It is only a problem if you have advanced liver disease, which you do not have....

Hi, and welcome.  I tend to agree with hep mom.  I had my gall bladder removed along with the rt. lobe of my liver (g.b. is located just beneath the rt. lobe of liver, somewhat attached to it) when I had liver cancer.   GB removal hasn't caused any further problems with my hep C or my liver disease, which includes cirrhosis.  However, I suggest you check with your GI doc or hepatologist to get a definitive answer.
