Hubby's acting like his ammonia level is up. Now, mind you we have all been homebound for about 4 days now due to an ice storm in the DFW area, and now 6 inches of snow today on top of the ice. But yesterday I could tell he was starting to slip away a bit. I said something to him about it and he chose to pick a fight w/ me instead. Today he's a little worse. Refuses to take his lactulose, etc. He told me last night at the AA meeting his sponsor asked him if his ammonia level was up (His sponsor is very well versed on what's going on w/ hubby medically). So, today, he tell me he does not want lactulose, then proceeds to throw all his meds in the trash, including his seizure medication. I basically told him if he was going to play that game, then when he had a seizure I would just let him sit and flop around on the floor....no sympathy. Then I tried to give him his lactulose again, and he refused. I just looked at him and said "fine, then I don't want to hear about it when all heck breaks loose". Problem is, I am the one that has to deal with it! Oyy!! Sorry, just needed to vent. He is acting like a child today and I just don't have the patience for it!

Hi Mer, Boy do I remember those days....... those were the times that were the hardest......it's when I would lose it and say things that I would regret later.......Got to hand it to you .......you're showing a lot more patience than I had during those times. Hang in there........Lot's of thoughts and prayers........

Well, I have learned the hard way that you cannot reason with an unreasonable person! So, if he wants to act stupid, then I guess I am just going to have to let him. I think I even used the words "fine, then slip in to a coma dummy"....I hope that never happens because I could not live with myself!

I'd use blackmail sometimes........Like .......okay don't fight.....go ahead and die......and when you do......our granddaughters will not remember you and I will do nothing to help them remember you. Now, he thought the world of our granddaughters and that would be one of the only ways short of taking him to the ER that would work.........he'd take is lactulose a short time later. The way I figure......this war.......and if it takes some extreme measures so be it.

I hate that I have to be so mean and forceful, but one thing this disease has done is made me a stronger person in many many ways! He's sleeping now, so that is a good thing!

Mer we use strong boundary techniques with the people I work with who have mental health issues. It's just plain disengaging and taking care of self while not being emeshed with the person. You have to do this for self preservation.... you have to..Alanon helped me understand this concept...yep some call it tough love...whatever you are on track...my thoughts are with you...Sandi

Thanks all! He's a little better this evening. He looked in his medicine bag and asked me where one of his meds were. (He threw all of them in the trash and I fished them out, but apparently I missed on.....his Celexa! Go Figure!). So, he went and dug through the trash until he found it, and then about 30 minutes later apologized for the way he had acted this afternoon. I let it go at that. I was not going to have a "talk" with him about it because he is not in a place where he would completely "get" it at this point. But, he's better this evening so I will take that!

I will get out of the house tomorrow (it's finally supposed to get above freezing, so hoping the roads will clear some)....even if I have to get a sled dog! I need to get out...cabin fever has set in! LOL

Mer, I'd accept the apology.  That means he's somewhat aware of what went on. Hope you're able to get out!

Thanks, Connie! I did accept his apology, but I just was not goin to re-hash the situation with him. The sun is out today, and it's supposed to get above freezing.....hoping the roads will clear up in a couple of hours and I plan on getting out!

Connie, I got out! It was wonderful! The sun is shining and all the ice and snow is melting, so the roads were not too bad.

Bet it was good to be out. We got hubby OUT today, with a friend, not ME...so I stayed home ALONE and did the laundry with every window in the house open to the AIR...high 70s and lovely...ahhh, Florida in February, gotta love it. Ironed and watch chick TV....in my PJs til 5. Perfect.

ML, sounds like you had a wonderful day, too!! My dad lives in FL, gulf side and he was so happy that it was finally warm enough to play golf! LOL!
