liver and kidney failure

My mother in law (54) has cirrhosis of the liver. Her ammonia levels became elavated to 73. We took her to the ER and she was combative and not herself when she got to her room so they put her in ICU insted of the regular floor room. Once in ICU they discovered bleeding and did a scope for varicies or bleeding ulcers. On the way out with the scope the doctor aggravated the only small varcies they saw at the top and she swallowed blood they told us she required no banding or another type of laser procedure. They took her off the setitive 6 hours ago and she is still not responing she is on a ventalater and blood is leaking from nose and mouth. This morning they told us her kidneys are also failing.

Please if anyone out there can help us we are at a loss and dont know if we are coming or going....

It doesn't sound good...sounds like major organ shut down...but I'm always hoping for the best my thoughts and prayers are with you

thank you for all of your welcomes thoughts and prayers. now the nurse told us this morning she has signs of Decerebrate posturing, and that we should start thinking about if we are helping her or prolonging death. this disturbed us and we felt he should not give up so easy as her nurse. monday feb 14 she walked in the hospital herself and now is looking at death........as her family we keep praying and hoping for the best. thank you for your posts

Keeping the Faith....this is such a tough situation...and grasping how quickly a person can go from walking eating talking all things independently to lying in that bed with doctors saying the condition is terminal... it's like a time warp....bizarre thing... you feel like you're in a glass bottle...and talking in slow motion... Last April 21st Mike was supposed to be going in for another tapping to remove fluids...he could not get up out of bed...he was assisted to the ambulance...at the ER the doctor asked me if I wanted to prolong his life.... Mike was aware awake and could hear...I responded with anxiety fear.... anger...I said turn around ask him... and I pushed past the doctor to Mike's side and laid out the situation to him... I asked him in a very blunt manner... should we do lifesaving measures... your medical directive says differently... he said yes... however within 24 hours he was dead... his blood pressure had crashed... pneumonia... kidney failure...liver failure.... etc... it happened quickly.... and I can be in that moment with one thought... I can remember pushing past that doctor to Mike's side...and all the emotions that went with it...and I sit alone and wonder again... what happened... what happened...weigh it all out... carefully... step back in the moment and talk to people you trust... research... and come here... the point is a person can go from independence to death's door... quickly... and it hits the caretaker quickly also I came home from the overnight shift to sitting at Mike's deathbed... went very quickly... hope that helped... my thoughts are with you...
