Good news to share...
Hubby had labs yesterday and GI appt this morning. Everything went very well. There were small improvements in his labs, results are near normal or at the edges of normal. INR down a touch. Bilirubin down to 2.1. GI was pleased. Doctor was also pleased that hubby is now 6 1/2 months no alcohol and he is attending the chemical dependency group meetings plus monthly meetings with his case manager. He will be having another ultrasound next week to check for liver tumors, and his liver cancer blood test is still pending. Doctor also said the upper endoscopy will be repeated 6 months from now to check on his varices.
So...provided that the ultrasound and liver cancer blood test come back negative, hubby won't have to be back for labs or doctor's visit for 6 months!
This was all good news, and I definitely had a bounce in my step today.
Please let this be testimony to the improvements in health that can be made by keeping off the alcohol, changing the diet, resting and taking vitamins. I know if hubby did not make all these lifestyle changes his health would have gone in the opposite direction, and my posts would be very different. And I am mindful that his health could still go the other way if he doesn't continue with all his efforts to remain alcohol free.
