Liver spot or skin cancer??

Okay, hubby has a brown spot on his face, and it is bothering him a bit, he says. So, is there any "easy" way to tell if this is a liver spot on his skin or if it needs to be checked out??

With everything else going on, just one more thing, I guess. We are also currently trying to get this Medicaid mess straightened out, but until it does get straightened out, he loses his benefits effective 5/1. He went for abdominal ultrasound today, blood work, etc so at least we will have an idea of what we are dealing with as far as the liver is concerned within the next day or two.

can your hubby get to the dermatologist before his May 1st benefits drop?  don't want to just guess at what the spot is.  what's the word on straightening out his medicaid?

Emma, trying to get him in with one. On the medicaid issue, it basically boils down to the fact that they say, get this, that my unemployment income was too high!! My unemployment runs out at the end of May, but I will have so get some sort of income in this house. In the meantime, I am looking into just filing for divorce so he can have benefits without my income hurting him. Sad that it has to come to this, but it is what it is

I remember you posting about your unemployment income being too high and looking into divorce as a way to protect your family. It just sounds darn crazy. I know that it "is what it is", but it's just not right for people to have to get to desperate places just trying to get medical care...and keep food on the table...and keep the family together.

I hope that you can get in to the dermatologist soon...if the spot is an issue it can usually get taken care of right at the office visit...that's what happens to my husband...he is prone to brown spots. Now he is getting raised pink spots on his forearms. I mentioned this once to him and he got all angry with me. Says I am always looking for something wrong on him. So until the spots change...I am keeping my lips sealed.

Mer, one way to tell real quick is if the two sides are identical.  If the border is asymmetric, it's likely cancer.  Also if there is a black mole or spot.  I have a couple of light brown spots on my face, too, as well as on my arms and the backs of my calves.  It's that old Florida sun.  These brown spots are not actually "liver spots" but actinic keratoses...which can be a precursor to skin cancer.

Mer, look at it as if it were folded in half.  Would it fit the other half exactly?  If so, it's likely not cancer.  However, he should still have it checked out to see if it should be removed.
