Liver Disease and Kidney Stones

Went to my urologist today for the results of my ct scan of the abdomen and 24 hour urine test. I have another 3mm stone in my right kidney. My results from the urine test was that my volume was great, sodium was low, but my calcium and oxalate were abnormally high. The urologist suggested that my high calcium and oxalate might be due to my liver problems and is probably not related to my diet after all.

He spoke to my liver doctor, and they decided to take me off furosemide, spironolactone, and potassium chloride and put me on amelioride-hydroclorathiazide, 50 mg daily. He wants to redo the urine test in about six to eight weeks to see if my levels go down. They are going to watch it more closely because stones and resulting infections have hospitalized me four times since 2004. This year's stone caused me to have to delay my tips procedure.

I asked the doctor if they can prove my liver is contributing to my stone production, would my meld score be increased. He did not know, so I'll have to ask the liver doctor next time I see him.

I have all these kidney problems, yet my creatinine level is always between .5 and .9.

My last liver labs showed a decease in my billirubin from 5.9 to 3.8. My INR is now down to 1.3. My AFP was 3.5 but they are still watching my lesion closely. I'll have another MRI in June

Susie, it sounds like your elevated calcium levels are causing the stones.  Whether or not this is a result of liver disease, I don't know.  I hope the change in medication will be beneficial to you.  Be sure to keep us updated.
