Mick, glad to see your hospital stay didn't change you a bit.
Karen, the first thing they will usually recommend is chemoembolization. It's targeted treatment to the tumor. That's what I'm waiting for now, but also had it done 4+ years ago to shrink the huge tumor I had then. They are also doing TheraSphere routinely at Mayo here. They're calling it Radioembolization. It also is targeted to the liver, but with microscopic beads of radiation. I had it the first go around and it basically killed everything, including the rt. lobe of my liver. So then I had surgery to remove everything. Surgery could also be an option for Mick's cancer. And the third choice would be to do nothing (I don't recommend that. They won't do transplant if it's more than 5 cm (or less than 3 cm if there are more than one tumor.) There is also a form of treatment that involves injecting alcohol into the tumor or using cryotherapy, but they're not used as often as other therapies.
Hugs,
Connie
