mr E, veins are still bulging and sis in law says he still has enlarged pulsating vein on right side of his neck when he sleeps. g.p. said it was all caused by the disease as all organs are struggling to work. giving up drink is a start but obviously, the only thing that will turn this all around now is a liver transplant. long long way to go for that.
all ifs and maybes,,, if he gets 6 months documented sobriety they will list him. then he will have to wait on average anything from 18months to four years. and everything that goes with the transplant eval. better to die trying though eh????!!!!!!.

i have seen the odd doctor that has actually cared about his patients and it would only take just one good doctor to have more help and support now he has decided to quit and we would be on our way!!!!!
still, we have what we have and we gotta get on with it.

The thing is a mess - I dont know how you would go about finding a good doctor - as I dont know how I would do it myself.

My wife keeps telling me to change mine - but that seems like a long winded process - and whilst theres been mistakes at the surgery she (doc) works at - she in herself would possibly fight for me. How far would she get? Listening to your total horror story I am not so sure.

Your story has left me cold (and scared - I admit it). God only knows how you feel.

our g.p. is great!! but there is only so much he has the power to do. hubby is seeing him next week for bloods and alcohol check so will see then what needs to be done to change hospitals. my only worry is that this specialist may well run clinics at that one too!!!!!!.
we shall see.
you shouldnt be scared, different places, different doctors, different rules. plus you gave up alcohol.
not sure what that last post of yours was about??
if it was regarding the private wars you boys all have, il leave well alone, maybe it was a computer error though?.

I can just picture mentally the guy swinging back in his chair - life in his hands - loving every minute.

I wonder how many people the NHS have killed over the years through negligence through poor research and poorly maintained wards causing leathal infections. Everyone makes mistakes - then to sit back and say what he said............ it must be painful being so perfect.

I wonder how many people have been infected with HEP C and other viruses as a result of the NHS?
I wonder how many millions THAT cost the NHS?

Anyway - enough of my ranting - it wont change anything - the machine is too large.

Im glad your guys off the sauce - I hope he stays off - I know for sure as do you yourself that theres people here who have stopped and whilst they are ill and may need a transplant in the future - theres never any regrets for stopping..... not that ive seen!!!!

Some people say that the addict needs something to replace what they lost - Im not sure I needed it - but I eat about 3 times more now than I did when I drank - maybe that fills my "gap"?

I wanted to post in the other thread - caregivers - but as I cant - I had to respond to you in in here which hijacks the OP's thread - so I apologise to the OP of course.

I'm so glad I live in the US. In GB, go to the hospital and you die. Must save lots of money, though. Probably goes to pay for QE II hats.

I started thinking about your calling me an insect. Then it hit me...I read on the internet that insects are (someday) going to take over the world. And, you can believe everything on the internet. Unfortunately for me, I had to learn about Hep C and liver disease the hard way, not by self diagnosis on the web. Anyway, thanks for the tip, I feel buzzed about it already.

Of course I read things and talk to doctors aswell when I can, Ive told you these things and you still keep ranting about the internet. Do you really think my reading is limited to about.com?

You won't go to a doctor, don't even know if there's anything wrong with you, yet feel free to dispense advice to others. You have zero credibility. Perhaps the British health system is lacking. When you talk it down and make it sound like it's better to avoid doctors in GB, there are some people who might believe you. Then, should they avoid seeing a doctor, that's a situation that could potentially cost a life. As usual, at the end of your post, you cry poor me, "I don't know if I have any medical help available at all." You won't, unless you try. I'm on a transplant forum and quite a few Brits are on there. I don't hear any of them complaining about poor medical help. They're alive because they did go see a doctor. A doctor in GB. When you started posting on HW, several of us tried to help you. You wouldn't take advice. Go see a doctor, find out the truth and I'd be happy to help you in any way possible.

I concur with David . If you put forth as much effort in seeing a doctor as you do making excuses and whining I will gladly do my best to help . Overcoming fear is difficult but dying a slow agonizing death is far worse and particularly if you could have avoided it . Your obviously scaring yourself to death by the unknown , That's the shame of this . I don't think anyone here hates you in fact it's just frustrating that you won't heed any advice by people who have been where you are at . How would you suppose that people would react who took the time to give you multiple chances to just meet us half way in concern to your health . Your words of support to others here are tainted by your lack of taking proper care of yourself . Just go to the doctors office and comply with the program if in fact they find something at all . It's like ripping a bandage off , Just walk in and sit there till they call your name . Tell them your concern and let the cards fall as they may , Deal with it if it aint what you want to hear . I say this with no malice but I have wondered if your really sick at all and this bit you do here is for your enjoyment . Go find out what or even if anything is wrong with you .

Its like this - I am currently in limbo - my state of limbo will last until my ascites or fatigue becomes unbearable.

I currently do my best to stay healthy - diet, booze, rest.

I come here for knowledge - as a TAKER - I cannot give much and I dont try to (for a long time now). Should the time come when I become a patient under the NHS - then I will become probably one of the most detailed GIVERS here.

Saying I am going to be killing people is nothing short of ridiculous.

I am sitting here calm about all this - no malice here either. I have made efforts to find my level here - I can only hope you two can stop *****ing about things which do not exist - such as the "poor me" thing - I dont cry poor me.

To be honest - I am so not interested in going round in circles - and I am not angry or anything - but my son wants some help on his game and Im off to play it with him.

I am ill - and I cant go to the docs yet and dont know when I can.

I honestly hope we can get along.

Mr. E , Do you ever read your own post ? By your own admission you are willing to gamble with death , You have a child that you seem to care about but you will possibly deny him the benefit of your presence when he may need you most . I could name off others but I hope you get the point , You paint a disastrous image of yourself by your own words and yet you ignore it endlessly .

I was given 3 months to live when diagnosed , It hurt like hell hearing those words officially . I speculated my position was dire before hearing it in the weeks prior . The images it put in my head was horrid , My daughter who I love beyond comprehension will never get to share her feelings with me on raising her own child one day ( My grand baby ) , Never see her face as she marries the person she loves . My mother and father who will bury a son before they themselves die . My fiancee at the time ( Wife now ) who will be devastated . My home for which I worked so hard to obtain for so many years will be another rug snatched from my feet . That sense of horror will never leave my soul no matter how my situation turns out .

I am a fighter by nature but overwhelming mental odds made me feel helpless . Days and then months rolled by in agonizing pain and my physical state deteriorated but the mental will to fight got stronger . I suffered almost a year and 6 months of hell before getting where I am today but if I had your attitude or mental state I would be dead . How can you read these dreadful tales of woe that we all testify to and callously ignore the warnings is beyond me . So your system sucks , Deal with it . Ours isn't perfect and believe me I'd have preferred to avoid waiting 1 1/2 years to get the attention I desired but that is the way it went .

I really wish I knew what it is you want from us other than to be a sympathetic ear . Get serious man . You know full well you can push this fluff on some of the kind hearted caregivers here and they will bite into it hook line and sinker . I don't blame them for caring but don't try to pass that pitty thing off on people who know better via personal experience .

Yes - david - lets look at what you said - in context - the context which you removed - yes the bit with the word "YOU" in it - how clever of you - not.

I absolutely 100% fail to see how your exagerated statement says anything other than accusing me of "going to be killing people."

You offer some great advice to people here - but as far as your communication skills go with me and my situation - you are pathetic - ignorant and massively presumptuous.

You may word it how you like - but KILLING people by my actions here is what you are accusing me of - and its beyond ridiculous - its down right sick.

If you are NOT know telling me I may be killing people - then exactly what is it you are saying?
Are you saying you are only joking or something now? Maybe I am not QUITE killing them or something?

Just what is it I am doing to them if Costing them their lives isnt killing them david?

Last word from me: I said "could potentially cost a life." Not "would" as you exaggerate. I never said "would" cost a life. Read my exact words. Stop reading your paranoid fears into what you think I said.

I wanted to answer Ziffle - not in a bad way.

ZiffleRick, you wanted to know what I wanted from the forum.

Its simple - to talk, learn and at this point I can only take - I cannot give. I dont like only taking - which is why I drift into trying to give (or have done in the past).

You have no need to worry - I am not just here to enjoy myself. I dont enjoy it - I have had a year of grief from you and david.

I am nowhere near as symptomatic as you were in your picture around the time of your diagnosis. My symptoms are there - but I have not yet lost muscle mass (noticeably).

You say if you had not gone to get sorted out - you would be dead now - that situation is not mine. If I were to get any where near close to where you were - even slightly losing mass - I would KNOW IN MY HEAD I had to go - so effectively I would infact get treated before you did in terms of the disease progress.

I live by the things on here - my diet, my keeping an eye on myself, I weigh myself and write it down daily, I avoid foods, I have taken advice not to do things like dandelion, as of yesterday I am now thinking of dropping milk thistle because of a thread here, I have learned a lot about the way the NHS treats people, the list is endless - you already know I quit drinking 100%.

I do not give medical advice - period - I simply dont. I rarely ask either - because it goes down badly. But I have a thousand questions - you dont know the half of it - but YOU stop me asking (and david) - effectively cutting off my supply of valuable information - just because I cant bring myself to go to the doctor.

I do not put people in danger - in the slightest.

I thought your post had some fair questions in it - I hope you see things from my perspective - even if you dont agree.
