Sw, welcome to the forum. I just had a chemoembolization myself on 07/18. It takes awhile for the chemo to do its work. I was told it would be 3 mos. before i am scanned, to give it time to shrink. My HCC was/is 4.9 cm and I am on the transplant list, so they needed to keep it from reaching 5 cm...the cutoff for transplant. Ask your hep doc if they do TheraShere treatment at the facility you go to. I had this 4 yrs. ago and it totally zapped the tumor and also the right lobe, which was removed. At that time, I had a tumor of 12 cm x 11.5 cm, which had metastasized into the inferior vena cava. I first had chemoembolization to shrink it back into the right lobe and reduce it to 8 cm. Then the TheraSphere. Unfortunately, I now have a new tumor. There is also laser treatment and cryoablation. Know all your options.
I wish you all the luck in the world.
Hugs,
Connie
