5 Days in hospital-kidney not producing urine

Hubby came home Saturday after spending 5 days in the hospital. We met with the transplant surgeon and he was pre-approved to start the process to get listed. They had already called the insurance company to get pre approved.  Appointments start next week. Just an update.  This is the first time in over a year he spoke with hope for the future.

Wondering, that's very good news that your hubby will be evaluated for transplant.  Will he need both a liver and kidney transplant, or do they think that his kidney problems will clear up when he has a liver transplant?  Has he been on dialysis?

I'm glad that he is more hopeful.  How about his nasty attitude?  Has that changed as he's gotten sicker?  Is he on Lactulose?

What TP center is he using?  I go to Mayo Jacksonville (FL) and they put me through a really rigorous (and totally exhausting) evaluation process.  They are very thorough, but also added on some additional tests because of my liver cancer.

We will be using UMASS Memorial in Worcester, MA. Right now it is only a liver transplant, his kidney seems to be ok now.

His attitude is much better than it was in the beginning, he still has his off days but not like before!

The surgeon wanted to know if I would consider doing a live donation for transplant but my blood type does not match his. I would have done it in a minute.

Wondering, it sounds like the surgeon is anxious to have a transplant done ASAP.  Does hubby have any children or siblings who might be agreeable to being a live donor?  He can also be listed at other centers (try Mass General.)  That will be explained during the evaluation process.

I'm glad to hear that other things have calmed down.  Please keep us updated.
